chapter IX.

"seonghwa?!"

the vampire immediately tensed up at the mention of his name. on instinct, he stepped infront of yeosang, scanning the area to find who had called out his name.

a familiar figure stepped out from behind the fog, causing seonghwa to drop his arms back down to his sides and grin.

"san?" he called as he approached his childhood best friend, reaching for a hug to which san gladly accepted.

yeosang, pretty much clueless of what was going on, stood awkwardly to the side watching the two friends hug.

"it feels like i haven't seen you in ages!" the younger sighed dramatically.

seonghwa chuckled, "you've been alive for ages. do not compare that to me leaving for a few months."

san chuckled back. however, his laughter came to a halt when he noticed a human standing beside them. his face instantly dropped.

"who's this?" he asked defensively.

"oh!" seonghwa quickly latched his arm around the boy's waist. "this is yeosang. i've been staying with him momentarily."

the silver haired boy muttered a soft "hi", his cheeks were burning due to the fact that seonghwa kept grabbing his waist.

"a human?"

"yes." seonghwa pressed his lips into a line. "do not worry, i've taken safety precautions."

san's once happy and bright (for a vampire) aura was replaced almost instantly with a much more hostile one.

"there's no safety precautions up here. especially for you, hwa." he scolded the other vampire. how could he be so careless as to bring a non-familiar creature up to the mountains, especially when he was actively being hunted?

"huh?" the human cut in, a little worried after san just causally that brought that up. seonghwa looked down at the male latched onto him nervously, then back at san.

san sighed, crossing his arms over his chest, "i'm assuming you didn't inform your mate, no?"

yeosang blushed even harder, "i'm not his ma—"

"whatever," san cut him off. "who am i to scold you on your irresponsible decision making? you are far older than me and surely more wise." he claimed sarcastically.

"but, i must warn you. they are still hunting for you, every moment of each day. it's for the best if you'd avoid traveling back here, especially with a companion."

"well, if that's the way it must be, than so be it." seonghwa replied crouching down so yeosang could get back on his back. he wouldn't spend another minute on the mountain if it was that dangerous for the human and him to be there.

"i wish you the best, hwa. keep me updated about your situation, and i will do the same for you." san frowned as he watched his friend get ready to take flight.

the black haired male nodded, "thank you, san." he muttered softly and took off from the ground.

so there they were, sitting not-so comfortably on yeosang's bed. after the adrenaline of going to a real vampire town wore off, yeosang was left with the crushing anxiety of them possibly being in danger.

also slight anger at seonghwa because he kept this gigantic secret from him.

and then there was seonghwa. trying to calm the anxious boy down while his thoughts were racing as well.

this is exactly what he was afraid of. he had been so selfish to completely disregard the well-being of this human, who he grown to care for, all because he wanted to stay with him.

"i'm sorry." he apologized. "for everything. for keeping this from you, for putting you in harms way, and for being so incredibly selfish."

"and exactly how much danger are we in?" yeosang scoffed.

the vampire sighed, here goes nothing. "well. i am from the royal family of my village. our clan has ruled over the mountains for centuries. and i-"

"keep going." the human demanded.

"i am in line to be the next ruler. but yeosang, i do not want to be the next ruler. could you possibly imagine being stuck in the same position for centuries, as well as mating with a stranger just because they have royal blood?"

the younger lowered his head. that did sound like it sucked, but this still wasn't something that should be kept to oneself.

"so i fled the town right away. they've been hunting me ever since, however, i didn't know the severity of it—"

yeosang just stayed silent. a wave of emotions was flowed through him at that moment. he was scared, angry, sad, and anxious all at once. for his self, but the vampire as well.

"look, i know i should've left earlier— or even informed you about this before you welcomed me into your home." seonghwa started, "but i vow to keep you safe with all of my power, yeosang. as long as you are with me, your worries should cease to exist, darling."

that nickname never failed to make yeosang's heart flutter. i didn't matter how much he was mad at seonghwa, it still had an effect on him.

"okay." he muttered as he pushed the vampire's hands away. seonghwa then got off the bed and made his way toward the living room.

"goodnight." he called before fully making his way down the hallway.

this was a lot to think about. yeosang was glad that school started back up next week, maybe then he'd have time away from seonghwa to think about his next steps going forward in their life together.

i know that isn't how college works (they do not have an randomly large chunk of school off in the fall, and finals are not in fall) but this is a book about gay vampires so it's okay

also this is my first time writing something like this i'm cringing so hard hahaha
