chapter XV.

it was the next day. san had kept his promise of traveling back to the town to warn the couple. he swiftly made his way into the apartment again, this time actually seeing his friend sitting on the couch.

"thank goodness!" san cried dramatically as he ran towards his best friend. he grabbed seonghwa's face to exam it then dropped his hands to the seat.

"what are you doing here, san?" the older questioned, ignoring the fact that the other vampire had just easily gotten into their home.

san rolled his eyes. "where is yeosang? and where is..." he trailed off. he didn't want seonghwa to know he sort of had a soft spot for a human just yet.

"where is who?" seonghwa asked, he then looked down at his watch and back towards san. "and yeosang should be here any moment. he had classes to attend this evening."

san just hummed as he let his body fall back into the couch. he promised himself that he would wait until seonghwa and yeosang were both together to tell them. only incase seonghwa tried to hide it from the human yet again.

suddenly the two were interrupted by the door opening. seonghwa stood up happily, getting ready to greet his boyfriend as usual.

however, it was only wooyoung who came through the door this time.

"san?!" wooyoung called as he saw the vampire standing behind seonghwa, completely disregarding the other.

"wooyoung." san replied smugly as he watched the human rush over to him. it seemed as if wooyoung was already attached to him.

"i thought you were bluffing," the youngest said as he smiled at san.

"pfft.." the older waved him off. "i told you i had something important to discuss with seonghwa."

"well yeah but—" their conversation was cut short when seonghwa cleared his throat behind them.

"since when were you two acquaintances?... and more importantly, where is yeosang?"

wooyoung gasped as he heard that question. "i'm not sure... i thought he was here. he said he would leave campus early!" he said, panic laced in his voice.

now it was the vampires' turn to panic. san felt his blood run colder than it already was as he slowly turn to face the other vampire. he had a feeling he knew where yeosang was.

"seonghwa... that is what i traveled here for. to inform that your family... they spotted you guys on an outing not too long ago. i tried to warn you yesterday but—"

"do not tell me you believe he—"

"yes." san replied shamefully before his friend could even finish his question.

seonghwa looked like his whole heart had collapsed in on him. he slowly dropped to the couch and rested his head in his hands. for the first time in decades he felt the urge to cry.

"this is all my fault." he said, voice trembling.

wooyoung looked at san, his brows furrowed with worry. the vampires were talking very vaguely so he couldn't really understand— but from what he picked up the situation was far from a positive one.

"uhm, excuse me? where the hell is yeo at?" he frantically questioned.

san sighed. this is exactly why he didn't want to get involved with humans. there was too much conflict in between the two races that he believed they would never be able to come to an agreement.

"your friend, i suspect he has been captured on behalf of seonghwa. unfortunately there is not enough time to go into the greater details with you."

wooyoung's face dropped, he almost looked the same as seonghwa, possibly even worse.

san wasn't sure what clicked inside of him, but when he saw the human's drastic change in mood he automatically wanted to comfort him. it felt as if the boy had broken through his cold exterior in just two days.

"w-wooyoung, do not fear too much. seonghwa and i will immediately search for him." he couldn't believe he just stuttered. he tried to give wooyoung a comforting pat on the shoulder.

wooyoung just smiled weakly at him, appreciative of san's attempt. he couldn't shake his anxiety though. yeosang was practically his brother, he wasn't sure he could live without him. and he was sure that was the way the rest of their friends felt too.

"we have no time to wallow in self-sorrow, seonghwa." san demanded as he pulled the older up from the couch. "we must go now if we want to make it to town on time."

the two prepared to set off into the night before they heard wooyoung call them.

"can you promise to bring him back?" the human muttered, on the verge of tears.

san smiled sadly at the boy and shrugged.

because the truth was, he really couldn't promise him.
