chapter XVII.

the older promptly gently grabbed yeosang's face and laid his body across his lap. with one hand he caressed his cheek, allowing the other one to comb through the boy's hair that had been drenched with sweat.

yeosang was barely breathing, but both were grateful that at least he still was. seonghwa took time to exam his face even more up close. the bruises he once saw standing at the door looked ten times worse looking just a few inches away. yeosang was incredibly pale, seeming like he had lost a plenty pints of blood.

once his eyes moved down to the boy's body he noticed a large wound on his abdomen, most likely caused from stabbing. yeosang's hands were bloody from trying to apply pressure on it the whole night.

seonghwa felt a large lump in his throat, "i am... i am so sorry my dear. i never meant for any of this to occur," he said through broken sobs.

the human tried to send a weak reassuring smile to his boyfriend, but it was no use. they had beaten him so bad that he had not one feeling in any part of his body. yeosang wished he could tell seonghwa that everything would be alright in the end, but not even he knew the how true that statement could be proven.

seonghwa continued to stroke the boys hair, trying to comfort him as best as he could. he was waiting on san's signal that they were in the clear to flee the building.

it felt like the two had waited for hours until they heard quiet rustling behind their backs.

"san?" seonghwa called out.

"i believe you've called out for the wrong person, no?" a deep voice echoed through the nearly empty room.

a voice he hadn't heard for months, a voice he had not wanted to hear for months.

"son. face me." the man demanded. seonghwa slowly turned around to see the king staring down at them, with a scowl plastered across his face.

"where is san."

"he is being taken care of." he said, venom laced in his voice. yeosang opened his heavy eyes to look up to the evil man that was behind all of this. he shut his eyes quickly.

the man looked exactly like seonghwa, just taller, more gray hair, and a few more wrinkles. he couldn't stand to look at the man longer, he couldn't picture his lover in his father's shoes.

"i am truly disappointed in you, seonghwa. not only did you flee the throne and town, but you chose a pathetic human to seek interest in?"

the sadness that once clouded the younger vampire's mind was soon turned into pure furry.

"he is not pathetic! how dare you bring the innocent into domestic issues?" he spat. his father was far from the 'perfect king' the town looked up to.

the vampire chuckled sinisterly, "no, i did not. as soon as you got involved with this human you introduced him to domestic affairs."

seonghwa bit his lip as he looked back down to his companion, knowing that his father was fully right in that moment. he stood up, cradling yeosang in his arms as if he was his bride.

"you will not harm him again." he said sternly.

the father raised a playful brow, "oh? and how might you prevent that, son?"

seonghwa fell silent. there was no true way he could prevent it. unless he left the human completely alone, which was something neither of the men wanted to think about.

"right. i am done with this conversation, the guards will arrive shortly to handle the both of you." he stated, readying to turn on his heel and walk through the door he'd just entered from.

"what guards?" the voice seonghwa had been waiting to hear the whole time loudly questioned his father.

before the villain could reply, the smooth wooden stake san held in his hand slid right through his upper chest. his lifeless body dropped to the ground instantly, sounding a painfully loud thud through the room.

there san stood over the body in glory, looking like a hero directly from a movie. he had a long gash laying across his left cheek, but seonghwa figured that the boy would explain it to him later.

"san..." was all seonghwa could get up from his throat at that moment.

"we have to go now." the younger commanded, leading the way out of the home so the couple could follow.

the arrived safely back at the infamous apartment. of course, wooyoung anxiously bombarded them with questions before they could even step foot back into the apartment.

now the three boys all stood around yeosang's bed, looking at the boy's nearly lifeless body. his heart seemed to be slowing down every few minutes. with all of the blood lost and injuries he experienced, the future wasn't looking promising for him, not one bit.

wooyoung sobbed into san's right arm, tightly clutching onto it.

none of them were exactly sure when the two got so close, but none of them wanted to distract from the situation in front of them.

seonghwa had never seen san willingly let anyone get so close to him in such a short amount of time. san didn't exactly understand the situation himself, he just brushed it off, thinking that he was only feeling sympathetic for the human who was watching his best friend slowly pass on.

"is there.. there anything we can do? at least to try?" the youngest stuttered out.

san just looked at him, with pity written all over his face.

seonghwa let himself sit on the edge of the bed, right next to his lover. he grabbed yeosang's frail hand a placed a loving kiss on the back of it.

"there is something we can do... however, it is not to be taken lightly." he said lowly.

wooyoung raised his head from san's chest, peering at the other vampire.

"if yeosang undergoes a transformation... then he will be able live on. but he will have to spend the rest of his life as a vampire." seonghwa explained.

the room fell into a crushing silence. yeosang appeared as if he was incapable of making this life changing decision by himself. none of the men in the room wanted to make it for him.

seonghwa sighed as he slowly rose from the bed, he wasn't sure why he brought it up in the first place. he would never transform yeosang without his consent. hell, he was the reason the younger was even in this situation to begin with.

"i think this is the end." he declared to the other two.

it wasn't until he felt a light tug on his wrist that he looked back at the bedridden boy. yeosang had mustered up the last bit of energy left in his body to grab onto his boyfriend's arm.

he forced a painful nod towards the vampire. seonghwa's eyes glistened with hope.

"he said— he said yes!" wooyoung cried, "do it quick, seonghwa!"

seonghwa smiled once more at the boy before slightly tilting his head and leaning down. he sunk his sharp fangs into the soft skin just under his jaw. yeosang's face scrunched up, visibly in pain.

the human's eyes widened once seonghwa disconnected from his neck, only for them to fall shut again within a matter of seconds.

the vampire placed another sweet kiss on the freshly made mark.

"now, only time will tell."
