It was late, it was dark, I was about to get ready for bed. But then my phone rang.

"Hello."

"Hey, Liz it's Steve."

"Steve, why in the hell are you calling me right now."

"To take you on a trip, and maybe tell you the truth about Hawkins."

-

I was sitting in the back with Dustin and Steve. I was beyond confused they didn't catch me up on what this special adventure was about, or tell me anything about Hawkins. They were just blasting music and talking about this thing called Dart Dustin lost.

It was silent for a moment before Steve spoke up. "Wait a sec. How big?"

"First it was like that." Dustin used his thumb and pointer finger to show the length. "Now he's like this." He then used his hands to show and he was about 10x bigger.

"I swear to God, man, it's just some little lizard, okay?" Steve said.

"It's not a lizard."

"How do you know?"

"How do I know it's not a lizard?"

"Yeah! How do you know if it's not a lizard?" Steve yelled.

"Because his face opened up and he ate my cat."

Steve was silent for a moment. I was shocked and even more confused. "Okay, can someone catch me up or something!" I yelled frustration.

The two boys looked at eachother then back at the road, before Steve and Dustin told me the real story of Hawkins and how Dustin lost his weird 'pet'.

When we got out of the car I was rambling. "This is all so confusing, and weird, and mind blowing. So a girl has super powers and then Will got trapped in this thing called the Upside Down. Then these scientists had the girl with the special powers El. I'm almost 100 percent positive you are making this up."

Steve placed his hand on my shoulders. "Liz, stop talking. And hopefully this thing will prove we are telling the truth." I rolled my eyes and Steve tossed Dustin the keys.

He opened the trunk and pulled out a wooden bat with nails.

"Why do we need that?" I asked shocked.

"If you were listening you'd know." Dustin said.

I looked at him shocked. "You are a little shit." I scoffed and rubbed his head.

We walked around the back to a place to hide during tornados. Steve held his flashlight out in front of himself.

"I don't hear shit." Steve said.

"He's in there." Dustin said positive.

Steve tapped the metal doors with his bat. Nothing happened, not even the smallest sound came from behind the doors. He hit it again but swung his bat at it and still nothing. I looked at Dustin and smiled.

"Wow." He ignored me and Steve turned around to look at him. Shining his flashlight in his eyes.

"All right, listen, kid. I swear, if this is some sort of Halloween prank, you're dead."

"It's not." Dustin said, closing his eyes away from the light.

"All right?"

"It's not a prank." Dustin was super serious about this, and I didn't understand why. "Get it out of my face."

"You got a key for this thing?" Steve asked.

When he opened it, nothing came running out or jumping at us.
