When Cory stepped onto the school grounds, he felt lighter, almost happy. He was excited to see Bennett again. Just to have a look at the sweet face that has been plaguing his dreams. He wondered if Bennett had missed him. Cory smiled to himself, knowing Bennett, he would be oblivious to anything that wasn't right in front of him.
Unfortunately, the first person he met was Blue. Cory sighed in frustration, he didn't have the energy for a confrontation. He just wanted to find Bennett, his Bennett.
"Red," he acknowledged her.
"Dickhead." She responded, a grim expression on her face.
"Blue look, can we make peace or something? This is really getting out of hand. We both love Bennett, can't we have peace for his sake?" Cory asked, hoping that Blue would agree with him.
"I said I wouldn't interfere, but that doesn't mean that I'm not watching." she sneered.
"Okay, thanks Blue." Cory said, frowning slightly at her answer. At least she wasn't shouting or launching herself at him, he thought to himself
"But Cory," she turned as she started walking away, "don't forget our last conversation. I really don't want to remind you again of the price you'll pay for hurting him." she spoke quietly, leaving him standing in the hallway.
Cory knew that this was the closest him and Blue were going to come to reaching an agreement for now. It was the best he could ask for at the moment, even if her threat was still hanging over his head. But he didn't care about it. He'd never hurt Bennett again.
He finally found Bennett in the music room, playing. He stood at the door listening and looking at Bennett as if he was the last star in the heavens. He was so intent on taking in every beautiful part of Bennett, that he didn't realise that Bennett was looking at him. His face flushed at the embarrassment of being caught. He slowly pushed open the door, keeping his eyes on Bennett who was now putting the instrument away.
"Hey," Cory smiled at him
"Hey yourself," Bennett smiled back, his eyes hooded.
"It's nice to see you again." Cory hated this small talk, he just wanted to take Bennett into his arms like before.
"Yes, you too. You've been away for a while." Bennett observed mildly.
"I-I had a few things to sort out on my side." he rubbed the back of his head self-consciously.
"You should tell me about it sometime." he said, picking up his violin case and leaving the room, stopping at Cory's side. "It's really good to see you again Cory." Bennett gently put a hand on his shoulder, before moving away and shutting the door behind him.
Bennett was happy to see Cory, he couldn't deny that. It was good to look into his dark eyes, to be standing near him. Cory looked as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders, he seemed more relaxed. The moment Cory opened his mouth, Bennett could feel his carefully boxed thoughts crumbling and falling around him. Each box spilling its contents, some making him smile, others that hurt too much to look at, but almost all of them tinged with a beautiful moment shared with Cory. Confused at his thoughts, Bennett moved off to find his friends in the cafeteria.
"Cory's back." Ellie observed as he took his seat next to Victor, both looking as if he might explode at any moment.
"Seriously guys, I'm fine. We've talked a bit, so we're good." he reassured them. Blue gave him the evil eye, but said nothing. "Why are you guys not sitting in each other's laps like always?" he asked looking from Ellie to Victor.
"Victor fucked up of course, now he's trying to make nice with Ellie, but I told her to dump his ass and find a hotter guy." she explained holding back the laughter in her voice.
