***Ramya's POV.***
"I can't believe Mum knows. It is so embarrassing." I say, hiding my face in the pillow even more than before.
"And to think I have to face her and she would know that I was in the bathroom with her daughter. I hope the ground opens up and I hide in it every time she sees me." Reyansh says as he dries my hair with the towel.
"She did this purposefully because I caught her once with Mr. Verma in the kitchen and mentioned it later on." I say.
"Maybe then you have leverage over her." He says.
"Leave it. Here. Drink this." I say, and he takes another glass of turmeric milk.
Even if Mum wouldn't have mentioned anything, the two glasses would have said everything. After drinking the milk, Reyansh takes the glasses and goes down to put them in the kitchen and also to park the bike he borrowed from Parth in the garage.
When he comes back, I don't wait and ask him directly, "So what happened when you met Jagvi?"
"We talked." He says simply.
"Just talked." I say.
"Yeah. What else did you think we would do?" He asks as he gets into the bed.
"I don't know." I say.
"Were you worried?" He asks.
"A little. I almost thought about stalking you, but then I had Sniffy with me so I couldn't." I say.
"Where is he now?" He asks, looking around.
"Sleeping in Nani's room. Apparently, she has a soft spot for dogs, not cats." I say.
"We are over, Ramya. Way over. Today was just a way to end the bitterness and say goodbye." He says.
"Do you feel okay?" I ask.
"Yeah. I kinda feel light and super relieved to know something else." He says.
"About what?" I ask.
"Well, there is something I didn't tell you about." He says.
"What you didn't tell me?" I ask with a frown.
"That someone tried to sabotage our wedding." He says and I look at him wide-eyed.
"What? Tell me everything." I say and he does so.
Apparently, I was going to get kidnapped and when that mission failed, someone tried sabotaging my wedding. First it was fire, then someone tried to spoil my mehendi by making my best friend trip over something, messing with the music, putting chemicals in Haldi, and last, almost trying to spook Kashi with a snake.
"Jai and Zain were keeping an eye out for every event. That is why everything went, smoothly otherwise things would have gotten so much-" He says.
"Exciting." I say.
"What? Wait, a second. Why are you happy?" He asks, in confusion.
"Oh! Come on, Reyansh. We had a nemesis to our story. So cool!" I say, bouncing on the bed.
"No. Not cool. We almost died." He says.
"No, we didn't. If you had told me this earlier, I would have found the culprit so long before. Because the culprit's intention was not to kill us but to delay or to stop the wedding. I mean, this could be a woman's work." I say.
"And how would you know?" He asks.
"Men know little about rituals, and even if they do, they give little to no attention to some details. But women, especially aunties, believe that one hiccup or sneeze in the ritual is a bad omen." I say.
"So you're saying a woman tried to kidnap you and burn you?" He asks.
"Oh, please, if she wanted me dead I would be dead not getting kidnapped. She must have tried to burn my clothes. Remember how some of the guests said that it was a bad omen and we should postpone the wedding?" I ask.
"Yes. So when we got married, she stopped her efforts, or maybe she didn't plan on what to do afterwards." He says.
"Maybe. But the crucial question is: who is she? And what was her motive?" I ask.
"Well, now we can't find her, can we?" Reyansh asks.
"Maybe we can. I mean, obviously our mothers are ruled out and so are any other female relatives on our side. It is someone who is new, and we did something..." I say and stop.
"We did something, what?" He asks.
"Nothing." I say.
"You know something. Come on, I told you everything and now you want to be a hero on your own and take all the credit. No way. Tell me, who do you suspect?" He asks.
"It is just a thought based on one incident." I say.
"What incident?" He asks.
"Well, two actually. I had gone to invite the whole Verma family, and I met Geeta aunty and Meeta only that day. From the look on aunty's face, I thought she wasn't interested in the wedding and said she would come, but she has one more friend's event to attend in the same city. The second incident was that aunty was coming and going back and forth from her friend's event to mine and in between, I would often see her looking at wedding arrangements." I say.
"Why didn't you tell me that before?" Reyansh asks.
"Because I didn't suspect her, as I knew nothing about this at all. I mean, my Mum is going to be part of her family soon, so why would she do anything like that?" I ask.
"But what about the motive?" He asks.
"Well, we need to ask Sameer first if he told anyone that he was interested in me, especially his mother." I say.
"We shouldn't." He says.
"Why?" I ask with a frown.
"Look, even if she did all this, we have to let this go. She didn't create any other nuisance after the wedding, so maybe we should forget about it." Reyansh says.
"But why?" I ask.
"Because she is part of your mother's new family and we don't want to create any more problems." He says.
"But-" I say, but he stops.
"No, Ramya. Promise me you won't investigate anymore. It is better to just leave it." He says and I nod hesitantly, "Say it."
"I promise." I say, and he sighs in relief and takes me in his arms.
I uncross my fingers and say sorry to Reyansh in my head for lying. After knowing what happened, I want to confirm and make sure it doesn't happen again, especially at Mum's wedding. I have to let Geeta aunty know that for my Mum I could even put her behind the bars.
"When did you come, Reyansh?" Nani asks, the next day as he comes down for breakfast.
"Last night, Mom." Mum says and winks at me.
I roll my eyes and serve some paratha I made for Reyansh. His favorite palak and cheese one. He smiles and asks me to have breakfast with him. He serves me breakfast too and I look up to see my Mum looking at us with a satisfied smile on her face. I smile back at her.
Whatever happened yesterday was over and now I have Reyansh all to myself. So maybe now, after finishing one last work of dealing with Geeta aunty, I could focus on how to profess my love in a way that Reyansh won't be able to say no. I will show him so much love that he would literally cry when I propose to him.
And I have a perfect idea in mind about how to do it.
Reyansh leaves for work and promises to not disturb me for the next two days, but I don't think I believe in what he is saying. He would definitely come to see, so I have a small window to visit someone if I want to. And it is not like I won't tell him. I would tell him but afterwards.
I spent half of the morning with Nani and Mom. We talk about each of our businesses and have lunch together. In the afternoon, I find enough time to go out by making excuses that I want to go shopping. But instead, this is the right time to visit Verma's house as aunty would be alone.
But when I reached there and got out of the car, I was shocked to see a person I didn't expect to be there.
