Emison: From the Beginning

Chapter 25: I mean I'm gay.

Emily and Spencer sit down at the kitchen table.

Alison: I'll be right back.

Alison kisses Emily on the cheek and walks towards Mrs. Hastings. Spencer takes a cheese curl out of the bowl.

Mrs. Hastings: Spencer, leave the cheese curls alone.

Alison: Where is Jason?

Mrs. Hastings: He's in the backyard.

Alison walks out to the backyard and closes it behind her. She sees Jason sitting on the swings.

Alison: You wanted me?

Jason: Yeah, I wanted to talk to you about something. Come, sit.

Jason wiggles the swing next to him. Alison straightens her black and white plaid mini skirt and sits down on the swing.

Alison: What's up?

Jason: Before I take on two more sisters, I want to make sure you are alright. I know that we don't have the kind of sibling relationship that we want with each other. But I am definitely willing to try and make things better between us. You're my baby sis. Well, older baby sis and I love you.

Alison smiles at Jason.

Alison: I love you too, Jason. And I know that I haven't always been the best sister to you and I apologize for that. And when you left for Georgia, I didn't hate you for being able to stay in Georgia by yourself. I hated you because you left me. Mostly because I thought the reason you left was because of me. I thought I got on your nerves so bad that you wanted to get away from me.

Alison starts to tear up.

Jason: Ali, that would never be a reason I would leave. I left because Nana needed me. Mom and dad weren't leaving Philly any time soon and I wanted to prove that I could be responsible and take care of Nana. I didn't leave because of you and I'm so sorry that you felt that way.

Jason gets up off of the swing and hugs Alison.

Jason: When I found out I was having a sister, I was so happy but also scared. I knew that when you got older, I would have to protect you from all the crazy guys out there thet prey on beautiful girls like you and I looked forward to that. I was six but that's what I knew. Seeing you get older and seeing all those boys chase after you, I wanted to punch them in the face. I knew they were jerks and they only wanted one thing but you being the smart girl you are, you saw right through that. Now you're almost seventeen and this is that age where things get real. Trust me, I know. So if any guy comes at you strange, you know my number!

Alison starts giggling. Jason sits back on the swing.

Alison: Thanks Jason, but..

Jason: No problem and I also wanted to let you be the first to know that I will be moving here after college.

Alison: Really?!

Jason: Yup. I don't want to be away from you guys more than I have to. Plus, mom said I could work with her at the office!

Alison: Which dad?

Jason giggles and starts swinging.

Jason: Ken. But that's all I wanted Ali.

Alison: Okay. Can I tell you something?

Jason: Sure what is it?

Alison: I don't like guys.
