Emison: From the Beginning

Chapter 9: Thirty Minutes of Hell

It's one minute before 8th period ends and Hanna and Emily are in Mrs. Reigns class.

Mrs. Reigns: Ms. Marin, may I have a word with you?

Hanna walks up to Mrs. Reigns' desk. Emily is in the back gathering her things.

Hanna: Yes.

Mrs. Reigns: I tried calling your mother yesterday and as I was putting the number in my phone, the number came up as Emilio's Pizzeria. I thought that place went out of business?

The bell signaling the end of 8th period rings.

Mrs. Reigns: (To the class.) Just leave the exit slips on the desk closest to the door.

Emily is walking up to the front of the room.

Hanna: Can I leave?

Mrs. Reigns: I want you to call your mother and let her know you have to stay after school for a half hour.

Hanna: What? Why?

Mrs. Reigns: You were being disrespectful and you gave me a wrong phone number. Call your mother. Now. Ms. Fields, you are free to go.

Emily walks out into the hallway and waits for Alison.

Hanna: I don't even have my phone. I left it at home.

Mrs. Reigns: Yeah right. Call your mother.

Hanna: Fine.

Hanna pulls out her phone and calls her mother. She hands her phone to Mrs. Reigns. Meanwhile, Emily is still in the hallway waiting for Alison. Someone walks up behind Emily and puts their hands on her eyes.

Person: Guess who?

Emily: Hmmm. Is it Ali?

Alison: You're good! (She looks inside Mrs. Reigns class.) What happened?

Emily: Hanna might have to stay after school for a half hour.

Alison: What did she do?

Emily: Instead of giving her the number to her mother's cell, Hanna gave her the number to Emilio's Pizzeria.

Hanna walks towards the door.

Hanna: You guys don't have to wait for me. My mom says I have to stay and she'll pick me up when my thirty minutes of hell is over. I'll meet you at Spencer's house.

Emily: Okay! See you then.

Alison: Bye Hanna!

Mrs. Reigns: Hanna, your detention starts now. Get back in the class and take a seat.

Hanna: Bye guys. The devil is calling me.

Hanna, Alison and Emily start laughing. Alison and Emily walk downstairs to the front entrance. They go through the doors and head home. A few moments pass and they're in Alison's walkway.

Alison: Where was Spencer?

Emily: She had an early dismissal.

Alison: Ohh. I'll go and talk to my mom. I'll call you later.

Emily: Okay.

Alison: Bye!

Emily: Bye.

They hug each other. Emily walks across the street to her house. Alison puts her key in the door and opens it.

Alison: Mom I'm home!
