MARLEY YEAR 845
╚══ ❀•°❀°•❀ ══╝You laid in bed with your pillow over your face trying to drown out the screaming of your foster family.
It wasn't a rare occurrence that they would argue with each other—You just wished that they didn't do it when you were here.
The last thing you wanted to do when coming home from training was to hear their screaming matches.
Over the last couple of years the military gave you and Kai a family to stay with when you began to show promise during training.
They said they couldn't allow a top candidate to live on the streets like a runt, but deep down you knew it was their way of keeping you on a tight leash.
Fake gifts and handouts in return for your cooperation. It was a solid plan on their behalf, knowing that your only motivation was keeping you and Kai safe.
In the beginning it wasn't so bad, but soon you realized just how broken this home truly was. The Webers weren't particularly nice people if you were being honest.
They were just good at fooling people—As the only reason they made such a kind gesture in taking you and Kai in was to buy themselves a spot at the winners table.
Unlike you, they were Marleyan, and although they were treated significantly better, they still found themselves in poverty.
They knew as well as everybody that if they raised a warrior child they would receive a life of luxury. It was an exchange. I give you shelter, and you get me and my family out of this shit hole.
You couldn't even blame the poor bastards for their motives—But nothing bothered you more than when they treated you like a burden.
It wasn't like you expected them to treat you like some type of god for what you were willing to go through, but a simple thank you would suffice.
Things went from bad to worse once Kai moved out. She was pursuing school in another district outside of Liberio.
She claimed that it was a once and a life time opportunity, and if she passed up the offer she would beat herself up over it for years.
A part of you felt like it was a lie she concocted in order to make herself feel better about leaving you.
But you would never call her out for it. She deserved to follow her dreams, even if it meant abandoning you in the process.
I mean this is what you worked so hard for. Kai had always been destined to achieve more—But it wasn't easy. Some days you wished you could have been more like her.
Those thoughts started getting progressively worse as training became more intense. It just seemed like life had finally caught up with you as you waited to be shipped off to the "Dreaded Island of devils".
You'd be lying if you said you weren't scared, but it didn't matter. You didn't have a choice in what mission you were given, the only thing you could do was succeed.
The life you signed up for was slowly killing you and living with the Webers never seemed to make it any easier.
The only reason they didn't beat you was because of the protection of the Military, but you could see the look of disgust on their faces when you entered a room—Acting as if they were somehow better than you.
It was similar with the other candidates, some of them had bad home lives as well—And the pressure of training didn't make it easy on anyone. Although a part of you was jealous that they were able to have their titan abilities back them up.
