"I'm sorry about what happened to your sister", Mrs Braun said lightly as Kai went to take another bite of the food that sat cold on her plate, "We haven't spoken since our heroes originally came home so I apologize for not saying something sooner".

Kai could see right through the women's soft spoken words, but didn't comment on it. She tried to keep her face from revealing what she truly felt as she sent the women a closed mouth smile.

"Yes, the news was rather hard to bare but I know that she is resting easier now...And if anything her sacrifice has pushed me to try and work harder. She's truly an inspiration", She replied smoothly.

Mrs Braun nodded her head curtly with a pressed smile, "Of course my dear, I'm sure she fought bravely till the very end—I also heard that you've joined the military as well, what a surprise it was to see you come back with our troops during their fight against the allied forces."

Kai didn't miss the annoyance that made its way to the woman's face as she held it behind a large glass of wine, "Yes, well I think the best way to honor my sister is following along in her bravery. And with Zeke Jaeger as my mentor it's been a pretty easy transition".

"I see, well according to Reiner and Colt, you've been doing very well in training", The women applauded making Kai move her attention to the quiet blonde that sat at the head of the table.

His face was casted down towards his plate as if he wished to disappear. He held a dark look on his features as he piled food onto his spoon, "Is that true Reiner", Kai questioned, making the man stop in place as he looked up with wide eyes.

He had yet to say anything all evening—Not that she was too surprised, they had only just gotten back home a couple days ago, and seemed all out of sorts. The only reason she agreed to come tonight was because Colt begged her to join in on the welcome home party.

She had plans to lay along her couch with a large glass of wine to keep her company, but the blonde was insistent that she joined him for the occasion. Although she knew he was only doing it out of love, as he had been by her side since the news of her sisters death.

But she couldn't help but feel as though she was using the poor boy for her own selfish desires. With him working directly under Zeke it made it easier for her to fly under the radar as one of his followers. Which is why she never pushed away the young mans affections towards her.

Reiner nodded slowly, gaining her attention once more, "Yes, you've got a lot of potential", He answered shortly.

"Our Kai here is one amazing girl", Colt praised, trailing his hand down to her thigh.

"So is your goal to join the warriors and obtain a Titan", Mr. Braun questioned, causing her to shift her eyes towards his small family who held curious gazes.

"Dad she's in a completely different branch", The young girl beside him scoffed.

"It's alright Gabi", Kai brushed off.

"I'm sorry", The man started, "With everything going on its hard to keep up these days".

"No offense taken", She shrugged, "I'm nothing special—".

"Don't let her fool you", Colt jumped in, "In the next year or so she'll be sent on one of the most important missions since the last infiltration assignment. She's one of the first newer recruits that's been trusted with such an honor".

"Oh really", The couple questioned with impressed looks, "I guess it's no wonder you're sister grew up to be so strong—".

"She was very strong", Reiner admitted suddenly, "The only reason we were able to escape is because she sacrificed herself to those devils."
