I walk back inside and see Lee sitting on the couch, recovering from Summer's meal.
"Are you okay, did Summer come in here?" I question.
"I'm fine, but no she didn't come back in here. I heard her scream outside and that's it. What happened, is she okay?" He answers.
"She's fine, she's just upset. I let him go," I reply.
"You let him go? Why?" Lee exclaims.
"His brother showed up, and asked us to spare him," I say.
"Okay, and? Kill them both!" He responds.
"Who the fuck are you to talk, Lee? This isn't your battle, and you didn't know jack shit until earlier! He's trying to kill us because we killed people who were like his family, it's the same reason we want to kill him. Our parents dying made us even, and I'm hoping his brother can keep him in check," I scream back.
Lee doesn't say anything, which just makes me angrier.
"Oh, you have nothing to say now? You seemed to have so much to say just a few seconds ago!" I continue.
"Okay, I'm sorry! I shouldn't have said anything when I don't know everything about your situation," He says.
"I need to go find Summer.." I state.
"She'll come back, Eliza. She probably wants to be left alone right now," Lee replies.
"Even if that vampire isn't after us anymore, there are other things, or people, out there," I say.
"She can handle herself. Isn't she stronger now that she fed off me?" He reasons.
"Yeah.. Okay, fine," I respond.
"You should probably wash your face. There's some blood on it," He points out.
I nod then walk upstairs. I look in the mirror and stare into my eyes before sighing and washing my face. I look up and see Austin standing on my balcony, then I slowly walk over and unlock the door before opening it.
"Yes?" I ask.
"I just wanted to come back and give a proper apology, and thank you," He answers.
"You didn't have to do that. I may have made everyone mad at me, but I still believed it was the right thing to do," I say.
"I have been thinking about that, why did you let us go?" He asks.
I sigh and walk out on the balcony, then I lean against the railing.
"Well, my family killed all of his friends, and my sister and I accidentally killed our parents, so I figure we're even. I was upset when he attacked me earlier, and I was prepared to kill him so my sister and I would be safe, but when you arrived I saw an opportunity to not have to get anymore blood on my hands. It was entirely selfish," I answer
"It may have been selfish, but I still want to say thank you. My brother turned off his humanity switch, so he doesn't currently have the best judgment. That's why you haven't seen him since he turned you," Austin says.
"Oh, so you know the whole story?" I ask.
"I do, when his travel group died, it was the first time my brother had talked to me in a century. He called three more times to tell me that he kidnapped, and turned you two, that you killed your parents, and then a couple of weeks ago when he told me he was going to go after you. It took a while to track you down, you cover your tracks well," He explains.
"Well, I've been covering my tracks for years so I should be good at it by now," I reply.
"I bet. I'm sorry for my brother's actions. Him turning you, and him coming after you again. I was in a similar situation due to him," He says.
"Oh? What'd he do to you?" I ask.
"Well, he forced his blood down my throat, then outed himself in front of our dad, who, like your parents, was a hunter. Alexander escaped and when my father found out that I'd known he was a vampire, he shot me for not being man enough to kill my own brother. I woke up in the woods the next day, alone, afraid, and incredibly hungry. I killed an entire town before my thirst was satisfied," He explains.
"Oh, my god. I'm so sorry," I say.
"Yep. He made you kill your parents, and he made my parent kill me," He replies.
I nod softly then look off into the distance.
"All this talking about him has got me wondering, where is your brother?" I ask.
"Uh, well, he's in the basement of our family home, tied up with vervain-soaked ropes, and vervain gas that turns on every 5 minutes," He says.
"Oh, that's new. I haven't heard of torture, or punishment, like that," I reply.
"Really? It's something commonly used by vampire hunters, most vampires, or even hunters, know about it. Where's your sister?" He asks.
"Huh.." I say, thinking about if I'd ever heard about it before, "I don't know where she's at. After I spared your brother's life she stormed off, and she hasn't been back," I respond.
"Oh, well if the sisterly relationship is anything like brotherly, she'll be back. She probably just has to calm down, she was rightfully angry at your choice," He says.
"I know, but she can hold a hell of a grudge and I just hope she can see things from my point of view once she calms down," I reply.
"I'm sure she will, but I'm sorry to say, she'll be seeing a lot of me and my brother. We lived in this town when it was originally built, and I'm hoping to stay for a while. Maybe we can become friends," He says.
"I would be glad to have your friendship," I say.
I turn my head when I hear my door open.
"Hey, Eliza, what are you doing?" Lee asks.
I look back in front of me, Austin now gone.
"Just getting some fresh air," I reply.
"Oh, I could've sworn I heard you talking to someone," He says.
"Well you know how I am, always talking to myself," I say with a chuckle.
"Well, I was coming to ask if I could stay the night, just in case that vampire can't manage to keep his brother away," He says.
"I don't think we have to worry about that, but sure, you can stay. Are you getting tired, do you want to sleep in my bed?" I ask.
"I would like that," He replies.
"Then lay down and get some rest, you've lost quite a bit of blood today so I'm not surprised you're tired. I'll join you in a second," I say.
Lee nods then he walks over and lays down in my bed, then I walk back inside and close the balcony doors. I look out of them one more time before laying down beside Lee, and snuggling up to him to get warm. I caringly play with Lee's hair, which puts him to sleep rather quickly. It takes a while for me to fall asleep, but I'm eventually able to. I thought my dreams would be filled with Lee, considering he's sleeping beside me, but all I could dream about is Austin.
