part three
By the time the group got to Reefer Rick's, after the whole ordeal of Dustin forcing Daphne to get in Steve's car and leave hers, it's dark.
The group pile out as Dustin aggressively rings the doorbell, the group huffing behind.
"Okay, well, that's settled." Steve shrugs, "I guess he's not here."
"Stop being a spoiled sport," Daphne lightly smacked steve on the arm, earning an eye roll as Dustin starts to shout into the door informing Eddie that it's him and they just want to help, with no cops.
"He's literally shouting," Steve groaned to Daphne who shone a light in his face, causing him to squint in response.
"We're in the middle of nowhere," Daphne scolded, "Calm down." Steve huffed at the girl in front of him, both of them staring at each other not wanting to back down.
The group begin shining lights into the house, banging and shouting, attempting to grab any attention from any occupiers.
Daphne noticed Max begin to walk around the house, so she followed her around the corner, meeting her as she beckons the group over.
"An outhouse." Daphne narrates, a building standing alone under a singular light by the lake. To say it looked eerie would be an understatement. "Oh god, this is giving me the heebie jeebies."
Steve, this time, shone his light at Daphne. Steve hadn't heard the phrase heebie jeebies since he was in 8th grade.
"Heebie jeebies?" he questions, instead of acting like a grown up, Daphne pulls a face at him which he imitates. Neither of them realising the group had gone ahead to the building.
"You know, this is the longest I think I've ever seen you." Steve notes as they begin to follow.
"Yeah," Daphne nodded, her lips twitching as she glances up at him, "because I'm too uncool to be with Steve The Hair Harrington," she mused, "although, I'm not sure when my brother surpassed me in that area."
Steve rolled his eyes, partly in embarrassment. Steve loathed how he was in high school prior his senior year.
"Yeah, I was an ass in high school," he nods, she lets out an airy laugh in agreement. Daphne could recall the gushing of Robin on a daily basis, Daphne who used to ignore her and refuse to comment. Secretly digging the hair, but often making fun of it. She was sure he didn't even know who she was in school.
Daphne didn't dislike Steve for school, she didn't really have any feelings for it. Although, she more so disliked herself as she could feel herself being drawn to steve. Like magnets. She found herself tagging a little behind, walking next to him. It was infuriating when she thought about it.
Not that Steve noticed that about Daphne, because he was preoccupied with the same thoughts.
"You're okay, I guess," she smirks at him, Steve letting out a small chuckle as he takes in the small compliment. "You're good to dusty."
"Yeah, he's a good kid," Steve spoke proudly of the boy which caused Daphne's lips to tug into a small smile, "headstrong little shit though— hey, HEY, don't open that without me!" Steve stormed ahead as Dustin started opening the door to the building.
"Dustin! Wait!" daphne ran forward with Steve, Dustin completely ignoring them as he opened the door.
"Hello, is anyone home?" Robin cautiously greets as she walks through the door.
