part two

The group followed Dustin into the night, it seemed like miracle had been bestowed on Hawkins — Daphne barely spoke their entire way. Her annoyance at the Harrington boy consuming her every thought.

All she could think about was how he was an ass, who thought he knew better than everyone, and thought he could tell her what to do. Daphne didn't take well to men telling her what to do; call it daddy issues, call it stubbornness. Regardless, both traits she possessed.

Steve, on the other hand, led the way with Dustin. Steve couldn't understand why Dustin's sister was so reckless, why she was so excited and keen to do this, but then again he thought about her brother who was just the same, and accepted that he has probably overstepped. But his stubbornness was preventing him from apologising.

There were more pressing matters.

"I think we're getting close!" Dustin yelled from the back, almost tripping as Eddie holds him back from walking straight into the lake.

"Oh man," Steve muttered, the realisation that they probably need to go in there. "You gotta be shitting me."

"Isn't this Lovers Lake?" Daphne emerged from the back, looking over the long stretch of water.

"This is... confounding,"

"There's a gate in lovers lake?" Max asked, confused.

"Whenever the demogorgon attacked, it always left an opening," Nancy notes.

"Didn't that kid just die here?" Daphne nods towards the lake, Eddie nodding.

"Well," Steve clapped his hands, "only one way to find out."

The group made their way to where Eddie left the small wooden boat; Steve objecting that it was stealing, Daphne correcting that it was borrowing.

Steve and Eddie managed to get it back into the water, all three girls jumping in alongside Eddie despite the objections of Dustin, Max and Lucas.

Dustin crept forward, attempting to step onto the boat, although Daphne's random sounds of objections as Eddie pushes him back by his head.

"Are you crazy?" Daphne hisses, "get back over there now or so help me god I will kick your ass all the way to Timbuktu,"

"You have no idea what you're dealing with, I'm experienced!" Dustin yelled, tutting as he stumbles back and attempts again.

"You trying to sink us?" Eddie mumbled, "this thing holds four people, tops."

"It's better this way, you guys— stay here with Max," Nancy orders, Daphne saluting her from behind which forces Robin to give her a disapproving nudge. "Keep an eye out for any trouble."

"You keep an eye out!" Dustin's voice about 5 octaves higher than usual. "It's my goddamn theory!"

"Dusty, she's right, I'd rather chew my own leg off than let you on this boat," Daphne mumbled from behind, Dustin shaking his head.

"What, not enough you steal my best friend, you're stealing my mission now?" Dustin feels himself writhe with anger to his sister that just scoffs.
