part two
Steve drove in the direction the cops went, shortly met by blue flashing lights and an area cornered off.
As soon as Daphne seen the lights she launched herself forward towards the window, desperate to see what was going on. It almost gave Steve a heart attack, but he managed to not swerve the car as he pulled it to a stop.
"Is that... Nancy?" Steve mumbled the question to himself, Daphne seeing the Wheeler girl stood talking to the cops with a white sheet covering what she can only imagine to be a body behind her.
Daphne opened the car door, stepping out the same time as the rest do. The atmosphere was killing her; there had been another murder. She just couldn't shake the feeling that it's only a matter of time before this gets a little bit too close to home. Before one of them are targeted.
But amongst these thoughts, she seen Steve's face as he glanced at Nancy. He was worried, and she watched as Nancy gave him an appreciative smile, like she was relieved to see him as he waved subtly at her. She couldn't help but feel jealous.
Daphne knew Steve and Nancy used to date, God, everyone knew about the chronicles of Steve and Nancy. As much as she didn't really care, it got about anyway. But she never thought that they would still have something between them, especially now Nancy was with Jonathan.
The group greeted Nancy warmly, although Nancy gave both Daphne and Robin a cold shoulder. Daphne put it down to her literally seeing a dead body. She guessed that would put anyone off being polite. In hindsight, it probably was that. But the Wheeler girl felt blindsided, being greeted by all of these people, seeing her ex-boyfriend in the midst of it. The feeling caught her off guard.
Steve ushered the group somewhere quiet, away from prying eyes as they perched on a picnic bench in the trailer park.
Daphne took her usual - as usual as the past 24 hours have been - place next to Steve, although she felt out of place doing so. Dustin on her other side, Robin, Nancy and Max on the opposite side.
It didn't take long for the group to fill Nancy in, albeit Steve noticed that Daphne was being unusually quiet with very little digs, snarky comments or snickers during it. He shook it out of his head that this had anything to do with him, or with Nancy.
"Our working theory is that he attacks with a spell or... a curse." Dustin explained to Nancy, "Now whether or not he's doing the bidding of the mind flatter or just- loves killing teens. We don't know."
"All we know is that- this is something different. Something new." Max shrugged.
"It doesn't make any sense-"
"It's only a theory," Dustin defends.
"No," Nancy corrects him, "Fred and Chrissy don't make sense. I mean, why them?"
"Maybe they were just at the wrong place? They were both at the game-" Dustin tries to think, Daphne can see his brain trying to come up with the answers and feels a pang of guilt at the responsibility he's taken on.
"And the trailer park?" Max adds.
"We're at the trailer park." Steve mumbled, "uhh, should we maybe not be here?"
