I looked over at Dustin and Steve with a nod. "The gate." The three of us said in unison. We made our way back down the staircase.

"I don't understand. You've seen this before?" Erica asked as she walked down in front of us.

"Not exactly." Steve stated.

"Then what, exactly?"

"All you need to know is it's bad." Dustin said.

"It's really bad." I emphasized.

"Like, end-of-the-human-race-as-we-know-it kind of bad." Dustin explained.

We made our way back into the comms room. "And you know about this how?"

I sighed, carding my fingers through my hair as I looked around the room to see no sign of the man that Steve had knocked out. "Um, Steve? Where's your Russian friend?" I asked. Everyone else looked down to where he was supposed to be and, because we had such great luck right now, suddenly an alarm started blaring.

Steve ran to the door and opened it looking out. He shut the door aggressively and said, "Shit. Go, go, go,go!" We all ran back up the stairs and into the room with the gate. Not the best place to go.

All the Russian scientists looked at us as we stumbled in. "Shit, go, go!" Dustin yelled. I ran after Dustin, who was now front of us. We ran down some stairs that led us closer to the machine and where the gate was. A dead end.

"Holy shit! Holy shit!' We stood right next to the laser the machine was producing into the gate. It wasn't any weapon I'd seen before.

"Guards! Go!" Erica yelled.

"This way!" Steve said as we followed after him down more stairs. My lungs were on fire. He pushed a guy in a red suit out of the way as we ran down the flight of stairs. More guards came running out of another entrance and Steve quickly pushed two barrels at them and began running again.

I ran over to the first door I saw and quickly opened it, Steve had run in last and shut it behind all of us. He stayed at the door, putting his full weight against it to keep it shut against all the guards outside who were trying to open it. And of course this room didn't lead anywhere else.

"Shit!" I yelled. I turned around to see Steve struggling to keep the door shut, so I ran over to him to help.

"Help me, come on!" Steve yelled. I pushed against the door, trying my hardest to keep it shut.

"Here! Come on, let's go!" Erica yelled as she was opening a vent that led down into the floor.

"Come on!" Dustin yelled over to us.

"Go! Just get out of here!" Steve yelled to him.

"Go, come on, now!" Dustin yelled.

"No! Just go get help, okay?" I yelled to him.

"What are you doing?!" Steve yelled as he saw that Dustin was standing in the vent looking at us.

"Go!" We both yelled.

"I won't forget you!" Dustin yelled with one last look. Did he really have to say that? We weren't going to die...right?

"Go!" We said as the door busted open. Steve and I both fell back against the wall behind us as multiple Russian guards entered the room pointing their guns at us. We both put our hands up in defeat.

I was now sitting in a small empty room without Steve, waiting for what felt like hours. I couldn't stop crying. They had separated us and duct taped our hands together. God, I hoped they hadn't killed Steve. I don't even know what I'd...Breathe, just breathe.
