We all walked in the blistering hot desert, and I was expecting this to be a not sourcing hot journey. Murphy had his arm around my waist, and we were talking to each other quietly.

We walked down a sand dune, and Murphy kept a tight grip on me so I wouldn't fall down. "What's the matter? You guys got some place better to be?" Murphy asked to two of our party members sarcastically.

I laughed, and Jaha looked out at the barren desert. "Do you see anyone?" I asked searching for any form of life. He never answered my question though, because he continued down to the ground where a wooden cart lay abandoned.

Carefully, I crept towards it, but suddenly a masked woman jumped out with her sword drawn. Murphy immediately pulled me back, and she yelled something in her language.

Jaha calmly explained to her, "We mean you no harm. Do you speak English?"

The woman snapped, "What do you want?"

"Nothing," Jaha said, "It looks like you could use a hand. What are you doing out here alone?"

"My brother and I were on our way to the City of Light," The woman explained, "and wastelanders attacked. They took our horse, all our water, everything. They killed him. This cart is all I have left."

Jaha instructed, "Give her some water."

I reached for my canteen, but a man with a red beard named Caspian grabbed my arm, "No, no, no. We barely have enough for ourselves here."

I glared at him and spat, "I don't care."

Then I yanked my arm free from his grip, and began to walk towards the woman. As I walked to her, I heard Murphy snarl to Caspian, "Touch her again, and I'll end you . . ." I smirked, but Murphy had to explain, "In a non-criminal way."

I smiled at the woman as I handed her my metal canteen, and I stated, "Its ok." She took the canteen from my hand, and began to drink its contents.

Murphy joined my side, and Jaha explained to her, "We're on our way to the City of Light, as well. What's your name?"

She replied, "Emori. Everyone in the dead zone is looking for the City of Light. Almost no one finds it. I can get you there. If you pull my cart."

"Done," Jaha replied, and yelled, "Caspian, you're on the first shift."

Emori handed me back my canteen, and she said graciously, "Thanks for the water."

Murphy put the canteen back in my backpack, and I smiled, "It was no problem."

Murphy held my hand while we walked, and he said to Emori, "So I've got to ask, what made you ditch your home, and risk your life to cross the beach from hell?"

"It doesn't matter," Emori said coldly.

"Come on," Murphy egged on, "Take my mind off all the fun we're having." I elbowed him in the side, but he just smiled at me.

Emori explained, "It wasn't my decision to leave."

I raised my eyebrow and asked, "Kicked out?"

"If I told you guys," Emori explained, "You would not look at me the same."

"Maybe," Murphy sighed, "Eve's done a lot of things that are questionable, but I still look at her with heart-eyes every time I see her." Oh that was sweet! I rested my head on his shoulder, and placed my other hand on his bicep.
