We marched through the now freezing desert, and it had been almost three days since Emori had robbed us. For a while I was doing alright, but yesterday I had begun coughing again.

I walked as quickly as I could through the desert without coughing or my lungs burning, but it wasn't fast enough to keep up with the group. My lungs burned and it was getting harder and harder to breath, and in the moonlight my group started to put a distance between me.

Then, I couldn't stop coughing, and I had to be coughing loudly for Murphy to hear me. He yelled to the rest of the group, "Wait!" Murphy rushed back to me just in time, because I could feel myself start to wobble. I placed my hand on Murphy's shoulder, and he scooped me into his arms.

"Murphy," I whispered, "I don't feel good." I tucked my head into his chest, and he ran back up to the rest of the group.

Thelonious nervously asked, "What's wrong, Eve?"

"The pneumonia's back," Murphy said angrily, "because that bitch took her medicine."

I smiled, "I'll be fine. Once we get there I can get some medicine, and I'll be fine."

My head was buried in Murphy's chest, and I was about to fall asleep—he thought I was already asleep, though. Harris kept telling the worst possible jokes to Murphy and I, and he stated, "Hey, tell me if you know this one."

            Murphy complained, "Not again, please."

Harris continued to tell him joke, "A grounder and a reaper walk into a bar. The bartender looks at the grounder, he says, 'we don't serve your kind around here.' The reaper gets up and leaves." Harris kept laughing at his horrible jokes, "You get it? Reapers eat grounders."

I squirmed in Murphy's arms to let him know that Harris was keeping me from sleeping, and Murphy said extremely annoyed, "I will take Jaha's staff and beat you to death with it if you wake her up again."

            "John," Thelonious snapped.

Harris chuckled, "Or this one? Uh, an Arker, a grounder, and a mountain man walk into a bar. Arker says, 'I'll take some moonshine.' Grounder says, 'I'll take some too.' The mountain man, he says—"

There was a loud click, but following that was an even louder explosion. The explosion sent everyone flying back onto the ground, but to my surprise Murphy was still holding onto me. Everyone was covered in Harris' blood, but if that wasn't grotesque enough for you pieces on Harris began to fall from the sky like rain.

An arm fell in front of Cassidy, and she began to scream in terror and back up. Where she eventually stopped, the same loud click was heard followed by an explosion.

As Cassidy fell from the sky, Murphy pulled me into his chest tightly, and I could feel his heart pounding loudly.

"No one move!" Jaha shouted, "We're in the middle of a minefield."

Murphy sarcastically stated, "Anybody else want a sign?"

A sand storm blew all around us, and Murphy did his best to protect me from the wind and sand. I began to shake from how cold I felt, but Murphy just said it was from the fever.

"Murphy," I asked quietly, "What did you think when you first met me."

He whispered, "When I saw you on the third level of the dropship I thought you were the most beautiful girl in the world, and when you sat next to me and started talking to me I felt so lucky. I kept thinking, 'Wow, this girl is beautiful—she's completely perfect. I can see a future with this girl, I can see us kissing, and I can see me marrying her.'"
