Sky's pov
I hold Ray's hand tightly as the ambulance speeds towards the hospital, its sirens blaring.
"Ray! Ray! Stay awake Ray!" I plead, caressing his bloody hands.
Even though his eyes were half open, I could see them loosing their shine.
Blood dripped from his thigh and the medics were constantly applying pressure to stop the bleeding.
"VITALS!??"
"80/40, pulse 50"
"BP is dropping rapidly!"
God what? No no no, please Ray you need to make it alive!
"How long?" the doctor asks and the driver shows five fingers.
"Just hold on for five minutes babe! We are almost there!"
Suddenly the monitor starts beeping and everyone rushes into action.
"He is going into an arrest! He has lost a lot of blood!" a medic calls out and I am dragged away from Ray.
"Stay here sir, don't move or touch the patient" he tells me but my eyes remain fixed at the blood stained body infront of me.
"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30" a medic counts doing CPR.
An arrest?
"GET THE DEFIBRILLATOR READY!" the doctor shouts as the medic continues with the CPR.
"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30" he countes again, and breathing into his mouth.
Another medic removes his shirt, exposing his chest.
There is a mild surprise seeing all the scars on his body but the professionals shake it aside.
"MOVE ASIDE!" the doctor warns, rubbing the pads together, spreading some gel on them.
"Charge at 140 joules! Clear? Shock" he says, pressing the pads on Ray's chest and his chest jumps.
Unlike movies, the pulse doesn't return with a single shock.
"Again!" the doctor shouts, "Clear? Shock!"
He looks at monitor panicked but the pulse remains nil.
"Charge at 170 joules! Clear? Shock!"
The screen remains blank and I see the faces of the medics droop.
Hasn't it already been two minutes without his heart beating?
Was he dead?
"Charge at 200 joules! Clear? SHOCK!" with the fourth jerk of his chest and no beats, my heart drops.
He was dead?
"Andwae!" I whisper.
[No!]
"There is no use! He is dead! The brain hemorrhage isn't helping either!"
"NO WAIT! CHARGE AT 200 JOULES! CLEAR? SHOCK!" He shouts.
"Sir, stop it, he is gone!!"
I look down at the ambulance floor, hot tears flowing down as the truth sunk in—he was dead.
"AGAIN! CLEAR? SHOCK!"
The monitor kept flatlining and I felt my own heart stop.
"CLEAR? SHOCK" the paramedic yelled.
