(ep 2 pt 4)

We slowly crept towards the building, not wanting to startle Eddie if he was there and not wanting to cause noise for the neighbors to be suspicious.

I held my flashlight up to the window and everyone else did the same.

Robin opened the door and peeked her head in before walking in. "Hello? Is anyone home?"

"What a dump," Steve said. He was walking next to me. I shoved him. "Ow, Charlie, what was that for?"

"Don't be rude Steven," I rolled my eyes.

Steve grabbed a boat oar from the wall. He held it like a sword before starting to hit things.

"Harrington, what the hell are you doing?" I asked him.

"What are you doing?" Dustin also asked as he came up behind us.

"Well, he might be in here," Steve poked the tarp.

"So stop being a pussy and take the damn tarp off," I said, watching him look like an idiot.

"If you're so brave, Char, why don't you take the tarp off?" Steve argued.

"Hey, look over here." I heard Max say to Robin. "Someone was here."

"Maybe he heard us. Got spooked and ran," Robin replied.

"Don't worry," Dustin replied, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Steve will get him with his oar."

"I know you think you're being funny Henderson, but considering the fact that everyone in this room has nearly died about a hundred times, personally, I don't find it funny in the slightest--"

Steve was interrupted by a person jumping from under the tarp and shoving him against the wall.

"Woah, woah, woah, Eddie! Eddie! Stop!" Dustin screamed. "Eddie! Eddie! It's me. It's Dustin. This is Steve. He's not gonna hurt you, right, Steve?"

"Right. Yeah," Steve whispered shakily.

"Steve, why don't you drop the oar?" I ordered him.

"He's cool. He's cool," Dustil held as Eddie tightened his grip on Steve.

"I'm cool, man. I'm cool," Steve mumbled.

"What are you doing here?" Eddie finally said.

"We're looking for you," Dustin replied in a somewhat soothing voice. "Eddie, these are my friends."

He motioned to all of us.

"You know Robin, from band. This is my friend Max. The one who never want's to play D&D. This is Charlie, Mike's sister. She was at the campaign last night," Dustin introduced us. "Eddie. We're on your side. I swear on my mother. Right, guys?"

"Yes, yes. We swear," Max spoke up.

"On Dustin's mother," Robin agreed.

"On Mrs. Henderson. Yep," I nodded.

"Yeah, Dustin's... Dustin's mother," Steve groaned.

We all waited and then Eddie finally let go of Steve. He wandered to the side and sat down. I followed Dustin and crouched down in front of him.

"Eddie," I barely whispered. His eyes met mine with uncertainty.

"We just want to talk," Dustin said, reaching out to touch Eddie's hand. Eddie flinched away. "Okay. Okay."

"We want to know what happened," Robin kneeled next to me.

Eddie sniffled. "You won't believe me."

"Try us," Max offered.

Eddie started off small. He told us that Chrissy did in fact, want to buy drugs. He said she looked nervous but didn't ask questions. When he came back she wasn't moving. Then it happened.

"Her body just, like, lifted up into the air and, uh...and she just, like, hung, there. In the air. And her bones..." He started to whimper but kept going. "Her bones started to snap. Her eyes, man. It... it was like there was something, like, inside her head pulling. I... I didn't know what to do, so I... I ran away. I left her there. But you all think I'm crazy, right?" He looked around at us and then his eyes landed on me. He looked at me almost like he was waiting for me to laugh at him

"Eddie, we don't think you're crazy," I spoke up.

"Don't bullshit me, Wheeler! I know how this sounds," He cried out.

"We're not bullshitting you," Max agreed with me.

"We believe you," Robin added on.

"Look, What I'm about to tell you might be a little difficult to take," Dustin started.

"Okay," Eddie replied, rocking back and forth.

"You know how people say Hawkins is... cursed? Well, they're not way off." He began. "There's another world. A world hidden beneath Hawkins. Sometimes it bleeds into ours."

"Like ghosts and shit?" Eddie asked.

"There are some things much worse that ghosts," Max replied.

"These monsters from the other world... we thought they were gone/ But they've come back before. And that's why we needed to find you," Dustin clarified.

"If they're back again, we need to know," Max said in a low voice.

"That night, did you see anything?" Robin questioned.

"Dark particles, maybe?" Eddie shook his head no.

"It would almost look like dust, swirling dust," Dustin described.

"No, man, there was nothing you coils see, or uh.. Or touch," Eddie replied. "You know I tried to wake her man. But she couldn't move. It was like she was in a trance or something."

"Or under a spell," Dustin whispered in wonder.

"A curse," Eddie looked at Dustin like they had some sort of secret language.

"Vecna's curse," Dustin replied.

"Who's Vecna?" Steve asked.

"It sounds like a cream for rashes," I mumbled under my breath.

"He's an undead creature of great power," Dsutin explained

"A spell caster," Eddpe suddenly spoke up

Dustin's eyes went dark. "A dark wizard."

"What now?" I asked after we went silent for a minute.

"Someone should stay here with Eddie," Max said. "I know I can't though."

"I can't," Dustin spoke first. "My mom'll freak out."

"I should go back to the store," Robin said.

"I'll come with you," Steve decided.

"I can stay. My mom thought I was working the night shift anyway," I shrugged. "You just have to make sure we find Lucas and Nancy to tell them."

"I promise," Steve said to me. "And we'll be back tomorrow with food anyway. Eddie won't survive on beer and junk food."

They all left and I watched them drive away in Steve's car. I looked back at Eddie and he seemed to be spacing out.
