(ep 5 pt 2)

At the bottom of the steps, everyone was pointing their flashlights at a glowing light fixture.

I stood next to Max and Robin.

"It's like the Christmas lights," Nancy whispered.

"The Christmas lights?" Robin asked.

"Yeah, when Will was in the Upside Down, the lights... came to life,"

"Vecna's here. In this house." Lucas stated. "Just on the other side."

I glanced at Max who was standing next to me. She gave me a scared glance.

The light went out. "I think he just left the room," Robin said.

Max started to look all around. "Did he hear us?"

"Can he see us?" Steve asked worriedly.

"Headphones," Lucas and I told Max at the same time.

She slid them on and I stayed close to her just in case. I was not losing her, not like Billy. I would sacrifice myself if it meant Max got to live.

"Wait," Nancy yelled. "Everyone turn off your flashlights and spread out."

I turned off my flashlight and looked down at Max. Lucas stood on the other side of her and I nodded at him.

Lucas loved Max so much. I could see it in the way he lights up when she laughs and how he sneaks little glances at her when she's thinking.

I realized, just then, that that's how I look and act when I see Eddie. He was like the excitement in my life. The one thing I was mortified to screw up. And I had yet to make it official with him.

"We're not going to be able to see if we turn off our flashlights," Steve announced, although no one listened to him. Nancy was obviously more respected.

I followed Max towards the stairs. I wasn't letting her go again. Lucas followed me and we ended up in a creepy bedroom.

"I got him! I got him!" Robin shouted from across the house. I ran towards her voice and stopped next to her. Robin's flashlight was glowing and then it went out. "Well, I had him."

My light turned on next. "Holy shit, this is creepy. Should have stayed at the boathouse." My light flashed off.

Suddenly, Steve's flashlight lit up. "Oh. Woah." He moved, pointing the light up towards the ceiling. "Oh, I think he's moving. He's moving. He's moving."

Steve walked out to the main hall and we followed him. I did not want to be the last one straggling behind so I pushed my way next to Steve as we walked up the stairs.

If Vecna wanted someone, he could have the slow straggler.

We got to the landing and I looked down at the flashlight that Steve was holding like a candle in the wind.

"Shit, I lost him," He sighed.

"No, you didn't," Max pushed forward and opened a door with stairs in it. The floor was illuminated with light.

Max went in first and I stood behind Robin.

"Hold up, guys," Dustin said. "What if he's leading us into a trap?" He asked and was ignored. "Guys, guys!"

I followed everyone up the steps and we ended up in an attic. It was super dusty but it looked like someone had spent time organizing it. It didn't look like a normal attic. Boxes had been pushed to the side and a small table with dusty glass jars were scattered around it. Old candles were knocked over and covered in cobwebs.

"Are you guys seeing this?" Steve said, snapping me out of my staring.

There was a single light in the attic and it was glowing along with all of our flashlights.

"It's kind of pretty if you ignore the fact that we're in a house with a triple homicide and evil wizard from another dimension," I stated, looking up.

I got goosebumps down my neck suddenly. My head started to hurt and then I felt my nose drip. I wiped it and saw fresh blood on my sleeve, turning my blue flannel dark purple.

No one noticed this at all. The lights were too distracting. I felt extremely lightheaded and then everything began to pop. The light bulbs exploded and there was screaming.

Suddenly, I wasn't in the attic anymore. I was in the Starcourt Mall.

"Charlie," A voice said from behind me. "Charlie."

I turned around. Billy sat there by the water fountain in the middle of the mall.

"Char, do you remember that night?" He asked. "Do you remember how you let me die? You watched it all happen."

I approached him. The closer I got, the bloodier Billy became.

"You made me this way!" He yelled as the hole in his body appeared. The hole caused by the mind flayer. The hole that killed him. I turned away, wanting to run but frozen in place. "Look at me! You coward! You bitch! Did you even love me?" He cried out. His voice echoed in this void.

"No, no! Billy, you were my best friend!" I cried, backing away. "I loved you more than anything."

"Oh Charlie, poor, little Charlie. Let me end your suffering," A different voice answered. This one was deeper, darker.

The scenery changed and I was at Billy's gravesite. Instead of his name, there was mine.

A date was below it. November 9th, 1967 to March 27th, 1986.

That was a day and a half from now. Vecna just gave me my death date.

I snapped out of my trance only to wake up in the back of Nancy's car.

"She's awake!" Dustin yelled.

"Shit! Is she okay?" Max asked.

"I'm right here, y'know," I groaned. Suddenly, I had a wave of nausea. "Stop the car."

"What? But it's the middle of the night on a dark road," Steve complained. "I'm not risking Nance's car."

"Stop the damn car!" I screamed. He slammed on the breaks and I stumbled out of the trunk just in time to puke on the side of the road. "I hate Vecna so goddamn much." I groaned.

"When was the last time you ate?" Robin asked, crouching next to me.

"I don't know. Like, a day ago, maybe?" I replied, trying to rack my brain

"Tell us everything on the way to your house," Robin said, helping me up and into the back of the car.

When we got back to my basement, the first thing Nancy did was dig out some leftover pancakes from the fridge. I greedily shoved them in my mouth.

"So, what the hell happened back in the Creel house?" Steve asked me.

Everyone's eves were on me. I was sitting on the couch still eating pancakes.

"Vecna got to me," I said, swallowing my food.

"Shit," Nancy cursed.

"What happened? What did you see?" Robin asked.

"The date I die," I said looking up at them. The room got quiet. Max looked at me like she'd just lost Billy all over again. "I now have less than twenty four hours to live."
