Chapter 5
Nate
We're going to teach Kayleigh about baseball. It's a free day and my girl needs to learn about my game. I've called the guys to meet up with us at the field. Our team isn't playing this weekend, so we're gonna check out our competition. Loading us into the car, we trek to the stadium and park in the players lot. We bring Molly and Kayleigh to a part of the park the public never sees.
Giving the girls a quick tour, they meet a few of the players and see the meeting rooms and staff area. We walk through the tunnel and past the locker rooms, then up to the seats. We've got a perfect view, right behind home plate, and up high enough to see the action. We've got a private section, so it's reserved for players and families of the teams. I won't have to deal with the press here.
Taking our seats, I introduced Kayleigh to Mark and Carson, who drove up to meet us. Molly sits down between Carson and Reese, while Kayleigh sits between Reese and I, with Dillon next to me. It doesn't go unnoticed that Molly refuses to look at Reese much less talk to him. I guess he's made her mad again. Someday he'll learn.
"Alright, sweetheart, tell me what you do know." I ask Kayleigh. Resting my arm on the back of her seat, I settled in to walk her through the basics.
It will be fun for all of us to teach her the game. Reaching over, I brush her hair from her face. My lips brush against her temple as she takes it all in. I'm actually excited to do this. Most of the time it drives me crazy to teach someone, but not this time. This is different, thanks to Kayleigh.
"You hit the ball and run around the circle, before you get tagged." Kayleigh explains, pointing out to the field and circling her finger in the air.
"It's called a diamond and you have to tag each base to get back to home plate. You start at home and end at home." I tell her, then we point out each of our positions, telling her a little bit about each position as we go.
"So all of you are on the same team?" Kayleigh looks up and down the line at us, and all five of us nod.
"Oh, here they come, Nate!" Molly yells over to me. "Watch out, Kayleigh. These women are the worst. They're just out for money and status. Not that these man whores mind that."
All of us look down the row and we see them. The women that the players send up here to watch them. Short skirts, high heels and enough makeup on them can challenge a Barbie doll for the amount of plastic on them and win. They're more plastic than real. The only woman I've asked to sit in a private box is Molly and my mom. Not even Carla sat here for me. I never asked her to, now the only one I want here is Kayleigh.
"Not all of us are into that anymore, Molly. Some of us just want a nice girl by our side." Reese says, just loud enough for me to hear him. Molly just looks at him like he's grown horns and a tail. She doesn't believe him anymore than I do.
"And I assume you're talking about Nate, because we both know two days ago you were banging the flavor of the week." Molly growls, causing Reese to sulk in his seat.
I'm not worried about Molly and Reese. They're back to their fighting that's typical of the relationship they have. Molly won't let Reese get to first base with her. Not in this mood.
Relaxing, I focus my attention on the blonde next to me. She doesn't like the negative attitude of these women anymore than Molly does. She's going to run off on me if I don't handle this right. Kissing her cheek, then guiding her lips to mine, I get her eyes on me and not what's walking our way.
