"Ok. I've still got the decorations and last touches to the dinner to take care of. You two are in charge of making the cake." Susan said.
"Okay." Lucy said cheerfully. "Wait. You're trusting Peter to help me with the cake?" she asked with a smirk, pointing to her older brother who was standing next to her.
"Yes....." Susan answered, then glanced at Peter. "I can trust you to help with the cake, right?"
Peter sighed. "Yes, you can. Honestly, guys, I'm not that bad at baking." he rolled his eyes. Susan and Lucy looked at him. "Ok, I burned a cake two times."
"Three." Susan said.
"I won't ruin this one. Besides I'm not making it by myself. Lucy won't let it burn."
"Yeah." Lucy chirped.
Susan took a deep breath. "Okay. Please don't let anything happen to his cake. This is Edmund's first birthday in Narnia." she told them. "Don't...let.. anything... happen to it." she said slowly.
Peter sighed again. "We won't."
Susan looked at Lucy, who nodded. She gave a slight nod back then walked away.

............
When they reached the kitchen, they got out all the ingredients and began making the cake.
"Alright, you measure the sugar and I'll do the flour." Lucy instructed.
"How much sugar do we need?" Peter asked.
"Three cups." she answered.
After adding the rest of the dry ingredients needed, Lucy got out four eggs and cracked two of them. Then she looked at Peter cautiously. " I can crack eggs, Lu." he told her.
She let out a breath then smiled a little. "Okay." she said, sounding unconvinced.
Peter picked up one of the eggs, hit it against the counter a few times, then cracked it perfectly into the bowl. "See?" he asked, crossing his arms. Lucy looked impressed.
"Okay." she said.
He grabbed the other egg, but then it fell from his hands. "Ah!" he attempted to catch it, even Lucy tried catching it, but it fell and broke on the floor.
Lucy stood straight from her tensed position, closed her eyes, and sighed. "Sorry." Peter muttered. He went to clean it up while Lucy got another egg and added it to the mix.
After they added the rest of the wet ingredients and mixed it all together, Lucy poured the batter into two separate pans and they were ready to bake.
"Now. The cake is not going to burn because we're gonna to stay here for thirty minutes and pull it out on time." Lucy said.
"Right."
"Queen Lucy!" a faun came into kitchen.
"Yes?" Lucy asked.
"Queen Susan said that she needs your help in the ballroom, if you could come." he told her.
Lucy looked at Peter.
"You can go." he said. She continued staring at him. "What?" he asked. She walked forward to him, looking up at him.
"Peter." she said. "Don't. Let. The cake. Burn. I want to go help Susan. But you have to promise me...you won't let it burn. I won't be gone that long. When I get back we'll make the icing. Don't burn Edmund's cake."
"I won't. I promise. And I can make the icing." he told her.
She frowned. "Are you sure?" she asked.
"Yes. I'm sure. I can make the icing and I won't burn the cake." he said reassuringly.
She stared at him for another moment, then sighed. "Okay. I'm trusting you, Peter."
"I won't burn the cake!" he rolled his eyes and laughed.
Lucy left to go help her sister, and Peter began making the icing for the cake.

                                      .........
When Peter was done with the icing, which took a lot longer to make than he expected, he sat down in one of the chairs that were in the kitchen, waiting.
"Sir?" a faun came into the room and walked over to Peter. "Oreius needs to speak with you. He said it's very important. He needs you to meet him in the throne room." he explained.
Peter glanced at the cake that was baking. It won't take that long. I'll be back before it's ready to come out. Lucy won't even have to know I left.

                                   .........
Peter walked through the halls after his talk with Orieus. When he got close to the ballroom, he heard a door open and fast footsteps coming toward him. Lucy came down the hallway quickly and accidentally ran into him.
"Peter! What are you doing here?!" she exclaimed.
"Oreius needed to talk with me." he replied.
"Did you take the cake out of the oven?" she asked.
Peter froze. The cake. He had completely forgotten about the cake. "Ohhh no." he whispered.
"Peter!!!" Lucy rushed passed him and ran to the kitchen to find the cake as black as coal. Lucy sighed as Peter came into the kitchen and stood beside her. She looked at him.
He chuckled nervously and muttered, "Sorry, Lu." She closed her eyes, then opened them again.
After she had gotten everything straightened up, she began making another cake. And this time, she did not let Peter help.
