December 4th | Prompt: It's that time of year again
Grinning widely, Lucy walked down the long, golden, marble hallway on her way to help her siblings decorate the big Christmas tree in the main sitting room, waving to a few Narnians that she passed. When she reached the door, she straightened her shimmering, ruby pink, velvet dress and went in.
The room was already decorated in green garlands, shining tinsel, and glowing candles. She smiled again at the beauty of it, thinking, "It's that time of year again."
"Hey, Lu." Peter said when she walked towards the tree.
"Hey." she replied.
Susan was sitting down, stringing the popcorn, while Peter and Edmund were beginning to hang the ornaments. She watched as Edmund hung a round, red ornament on one of the branches above her, then reached down to to pick up a glittering silver one from the basket and hung it in front of her.
"Edmund." Susan said aggravatedly when he reached down, scooped a handful of popcorn, and ate it.
"What?" he asked as he chewed the pieces of popcorn in his mouth.
"This isn't for eating, it's for decorating."
He rolled his eyes playful and sighed, continuing to hang the ornaments. Lucy grabbed one that was golden and had a glittery pattern on it, with a glass flower engraved in the middle. Then, an ornament that was see-through but had a flower design painted in golden on it, with little sequins to add detail. "These are all so beautiful." she commented, looking at the one Peter had in his hand.
Sighing, she glanced over at the bowl of popcorn, then at Susan, a pleading look on her face. Susan caught her eyes and let out a breath. "Just one piece?" she asked.
"Oh, fine." her sister breathed. Lucy popped a piece in her mouth, chuckling when Edmund made an offended noise.
"You took a handful. She only asked for one." Susan said.
"If I had asked for only one, you would've said no." he muttered.
The final result of the tree was beautiful. It was decorated in red, green, yellow, and silver ornaments, with popcorn strung around it, and little candles placed in different places to light it up. Lucy sighed satisfactorily, as she gazed at it from top to bottom, the joyful feeling she felt every year arising. It truly was the best time of the year.
