Chapter 7

Nat and I woke up earlier than everyone else, we went straight downstairs and got some breakfast. We quickly went back upstairs to get our suits on. We were leaving for Wakanda in about an hour and we wanted to be completely ready. "Why didn't you call me?" I asked, it just popped into my head, and I couldn't stop it from coming out of my mouth.

"What?" Natasha turned to me.

"When you went away, you didn't call me?"

"I did," Nat said.

"Yeah, like five times in two years."

"Aj, you know why I couldn't," she said.

"You could've Natasha," I said.

"Aj-" she started.

"No, Natasha, every day I was scared that maybe you got caught, or hurt or, or worse," I said raising my voice.

"Well, it's not like you couldn't have called," Natasha said, I could tell she was annoyed.

"You know I couldn't Natasha, you threw away your phone, and had a new burner like every week and I didn't know how to reach you," I said as my voice got louder.

"Aj why are you bringing this up now?" She asked,

"Because it upset me, and I've been thinking about it a lot," I said.

"Ok," Nat sighed, "I really don't have time for this right now so can we not?"

"No Natasha, don't dismiss me," I yelled. She turned, "When, when you came back we acted as nothing happened, nothing changed, a lot changed, I mean look at you, look at me. Natasha, 2 years, it's been 2 years. And I missed you so much and I was so worried for you, and you don't even fucking care!"

"Aj why do you have to do this right now!" she yelled back, "Can we have a good morning? We're about to have a long day, so one good morning Aj, that's all I want on fucking good morning!"

"You know what fine," I said I was upset, "Whatever you want Natasha, my concerns don't matter! I'm getting a drink!" I walked out of my room and slammed the door. I walked down to where Tony kept the alcohol. I poured myself a big glass of whisky. I drank it and then got on the jet. A few of the Avengers were already in it. Sam, Cap, and Rhodes were up front going over directions, and Wanda and Vision were talking in a corner. Nat and Banner walked on, which made me more upset. Nat walked over to me,

"We need to talk," she said.

"Not right now Nat," I walked over to Steve and Sam.

A few minutes later we all got seated and Sam took off. When we could get up I walked over to Sam so I didn't have to sit near Natasha. "Hey," I said to Sam. He turned to me, quickly then looked right back at where he was flying.
"I'm assuming that you two got into a fight," Sam said.

"How did you know?" I asked.

"You two walked in the jet at different times, when you Nat walked in you walked away from her, and you are always together and like staring at each other also you're over here and not with Nat."

"Ok, well you're right," I said.

"You ok?" he asked.

"Yeah, I just need some space," I said.

"Makes sense," Sam said.

"Ok, well I'm extremely tired and I really hate any type of sky transportation so I'm gonna take a nap." I walked over to my seat and fell asleep. I woke up when I heard Sam and Cap talking.

"Drop to 2600, heading 0-3-0," Cap said.

"I hope you're right about this, Cap. Or we're gonna land a lot faster than you want to," Sam said. I braced myself for the landing. Sam descended to start landing then we went through some blue shields and a beautiful city appeared. We got closer to the city and I saw T'challa and the Dora Milaje standing near where we would land. We landed and all stood up.

"Alright everyone, lets head out," Cap said. Rhody walked over to me,

"Help me prank Banner,'' he said. I nodded.

"Should we bow?" Banner asked as we walked out.

"Yeah, he's a king," Rhody said,

"It would be incredibly rude not to," I said. Steve walked to T'challa and shook his hand and said,

"Seems like I'm always thanking you for something." Banner walked out and bowed in front of T'challa.

"What are you doing?" Rhody asked.

"Bruce, common," I said.

"Uh, we don't do that here," T'challa said. Banner looked at Rhodes and me, and we both laughed. "So how big of an assault can we expect?" he asked. We walked away from the jet.

"Uh, sir, I think you can expect quite a big assault," Banner said, trying to get T'challa's attention.

"How we looking?" Nat asked.

"You will have my King's Guard, the Border Tribe, the Dora Milaje, and," T'challa pointed to someone.

"A semi-stable, 100-year-old man," Bucky said before he hugged Steve.

"How you been, Buck?" Steve asked.

"Uh, not bad, for the end of the world," Bucky said.

We got to a lab. T'challa's younger sister Suri had Vision laying on a table she was scanning him with some ring. Bruce and I stood over Vision with Suri while the others watched except for Sam, Bucky, and Rhodey, they were outside. Then Shuri scanned the stone, and a hologram of it projected from her hand.

"Whoa," Banner said,

"The structure is polymorphic," Suri said.

"Right, we had to attach each neuron non-sequentially," Bruce said.

"Why didn't you just reprogram the synapses to work collectively?" Suri asked. Bruce and I looked at each other, it was such an easy solution.

"Because, we didn't think of it," Banner said.

"I'm sure you did your best," Suri said with a smile, I liked her.

"Can you do it?" Wanda asked.

"Yes, but there are more than two trillion neurons here. One misalignment could cause a cascade of circuit failures," she turned to T'challa, "It will take time, brother."

"How long?" Steve asked.

"As long as you can give me," Suri said. There was a nose, some beeping. Okoye looked at a device on her hand.

"Something's entered the atmosphere," She said.

"Hey, Cap, we got a situation here," Sam said over the comms. There was a loud noise. Something hit one of Wakanda's shields.

"We got more incoming outside the dome," Rhodes said. I looked out the window, there was an explosion outside of the sheild, then there were a few more. They were coming. Vision went to stand up.

"It's too late. We need to destroy the stone now," Vision said.

Vision, get your ass back on the table," Nat said.

"We will hold them off," T'challa said, moving away from the window.

"Wanda, as soon as the stone's out of his head, you blow it to hell," Steve said.

"I will," Wanda said.

"Evacuate the city. Engage all defense procedures," T'challa said, then he pointed to Steve "And get this man a shield." Steve walked over to me,

"Aj, you coming?" He asked.

"Not right away, I want to watch Suri and watch what she does with the stone and Vision, I'll be back after she's finished," I said.

"Ok," Steve turned to the door and walked towards the door with Nat.

"Nat, wait," I called, she turned and I walked over to her, "good luck," I said, "and I'm sorry about earlier." Nat kissed me,

"I'm sorry too," she said.

"Just, don't get hurt and kick some ass ok?"

"Ok." She kissed me again, "Love you."

"Love you too," she turned to walk out, "Don't die!" I called after her. I heard her chuckle as she walked out of the lab.
