Daya's POV:
----

It was getting later. Maddy should've been back from her class by now. I sighed and fidgeted with my drumsticks, not liking her being out alone in the dark. I regretted not having me or Alyssa go to meet her after class. It would've felt better knowing she was safe with someone.

I jumped when the door slammed open, turning to find Maddy trembling in the doorway. Tears ran down her face as she dropped her stuff to the floor, holding her shaking arms out. "D-Daya..."

My eyes went wide as I rushed to her, pulling her into my arms and feeling her immediately go limp. Her knees buckled under her, and I slowly moved down to the floor with her and let her put all her weight on me. She sobbed against my neck, nails digging into my shoulders. "I-I'm so fucking d-done Daya..."

That made me start panicking. "Oh precious baby..." I said quietly, tightening my hold on her and stroking her hair in an effort to calm her. "What happened? Are you hurt?"

Maddy hiccupped, rubbing her eyes as she raised her head. "L-Logan and Jack..." She mumbled, just the sound of their names being enough to make my blood boil. "S-Saw me walking back here a-after my class a-and..." She trailed off, bursting into even more tears and hiding her face against my neck.

To say I was pissed off was an understatement. I was way beyond that. I clenched my fists and pulled her closer, trying to keep my demeanor calm so she wouldn't get even more scared. "Baby what did they do? Did they hurt you? I need to know."

Maddy sniffled, moving her legs around my waist and weakly clinging on. "A-Almost..." She mumbled against my neck. "Took blankie and t-teased me about her. A-And..." She slowly reached over to grab what she had dropped. Her bottom lip quivered as she held her broken friendship bracelet up to me. "Th-They broke it..."

My heart sank. At both the sight of the bracelet I remember putting so much love into and hearing how sad and broken Maddy sounded. I gently took it from her, looking it over. "It's okay, Mads. I promise. We can fix it..."

Maddy shook her head, reaching out to trace her shaking finger over the bracelet around my own wrist. "W-Won't be the same. Mama helped us with them, not gonna be the same..."

That started a whole other round of tears. The collar of my shirt was soaked by them as I gently picked her up, placing the broken bracelet on my desk. "Sweet baby it'll be okay..."

Maddy shook her head, keeping her head down against my neck as she took quick breaths. "N-No, Daya..." She said quietly, her voice shaky. "Daya I don't wanna be here anymore..."

I stiffened up when I heard her, heart starting to pound as I slowly sat on the bed, keeping her on my lap. "...What do you mean?"

Maddy was quiet, her hand twisting into the fabric of my shirt as she tried to gain control of her ragged breathing. "I-I don't wanna be here anymore..." She repeated. "I w-wanna go to sleep and never wake up. I-I want to fucking die, Daya..."

It physically hurt to hear those words come out of her mouth. My heart shattered, and I could feel tears burning in my own eyes. "N-No, no no no..." I cupped her face in my hands, getting her to meet my eyes. I shook my head, trying to dry her tears. "Baby please don't say that, please please don't say that..."

Maddy just sniffled and hiccuped again, wrapping her arms around my neck and resting her head on my shoulder. She cried more, and I didn't know what to do besides hold her and deal with my growing panic. I wasn't going to let that happen, I couldn't let that happen.
