[CHAPTER FOUR]
daisy chains
Eleanor roamed the streets of Alexandria with Aaron and Rick to her side. This was a joke as any. From the saviours last visit, everyone has been pissed off. Carl went silent – hidden and locked in his room with nothing but a sneer and darts.
"You're leavin' today?" Eleanor asked, walking side-to-side with Aaron and Rick. "Are you sure you don't want another team to head out?"
Rick shook his head, leaning against a lamppost with his arms crossed. "We got a day or two until they're back... and we've got fuck all here."
Eleanor scoffed. "They took our fuckin' mattresses! What else is there to take?" Aaron cracked a small smile at that. Eleanor never ceased to amaze him. "I still don't think this is the right route, Rick. They took Daryl. They killed Abraham. I reckon we should shoot the cunt between the eyes once we get the chance."
"We both know that ain't gonna end well."
Elle puffed out her cheeks and acknowledged his words. Technically, he wasn't wrong. Actually, he was right. Killing him wouldn't solve anything – Elle was sure Simon would take over in a moment's notice and she wasn't quite too sure on who was worse.
It was Simon.
"We need to think of something, alright?" Elle pinched her nosebridge with a heavy sigh. "I'll try and scout some ideas while you're out. I mean, shit, it won't do fuck all. We're all separated."
Aaron frowned. "Can we get them back?"
She glanced at Rick, swallowing away disappointment. "No. Not yet."
Maggie needed to stay at Hilltop for Little Rhee, and it wasn't like Glenn would leave her side. Everyone was still upset about Abraham so even if Eleanor could boost morale, it wouldn't mean or do much in a fight.
"Be safe out there."
Rick glanced at Aaron then back at her. "Be safe in here."
Ironic.
Once they left, Eleanor fucked off to circle the area.
Time at this point could only be told through the sun and the moon and the density of the sky. Carl should be with Judith, that's what Rick said, otherwise Eleanor would be racing out of Alexandria just to get the teenage rebel back.
In normal times, where everything and everyone was at an union, Alexandria would be left with Daryl and Glenn to guard, sometimes Maggie and Sasha. But now? Not so much. Thank you, Negan.
Rosita was spending all her time with Eugene and the newly arrived Tara (who slipped past the gates without an announcement) to gain information on this secret area the women ended up in. If Eleanor had the chance, or even the knowledge, that she was even here, she would've fucked off for some interrogation.
Her mind still played Abraham's death on repeat. Same with the disgusting saviour with grabby hands and a sinister tongue. It didn't help that the whole community was suffering too. The two strongest people that she has ever met... cowered away because of Negan's superiority. Rick and Daryl.
Such a fucking shame.
Everything that happened in the present moved in a daze, not even occurring in her mind until minutes after. That was evident when Maya was clutching onto Eleanor's hand, pulling her through patches of grass to find a couple of flowers to decorate their now empty home.
"How about this one?"
Jesus Christ.
"Sorry, Skittles. What did you say?"
