As casually as she could, Chiisai closed her notebook and placed her romance novel on top of it. "Not at all, Lord Danzo," she replied. Her heart began to beat wildly in her chest, and her eyes glanced around for Kakashi.
She hadn't expected this- to be sitting across from her enemy. She had put herself right in the open, ensuring that anyone making a show to grab her would be obvious. But it also would be obvious if Kakashi were to take her right now. They were at a stalemate.
Danzo sat down across from her and leaned his cane against the table. Chiisai studied his hidden arm- by the way his robe draped over it, it looked heavy, weighed down. And when she looked him in the eye-
There were no dreams. She hadn't realized until now, but she had never seen his dreams, or had seen his signature in the dream world.
"Kakashi won't interfere," Danzo said. "After all, we're just two strangers enjoying the weather together, aren't we?"
"What do you want?" She asked.
He leaned forward. "I never realized what lengths Hiruzen had gone through to keep you hidden, Chiisai Karasu. You're quite an anomaly, you know. Wherever did you learn such an ability?"
"I'm not sure if I understand what you're talking about," she said. Her voice was level, her posture stiff- she didn't know how to act around this man. He was already getting under her skin.
Her powers were unique, and her parents never even hinted at the origins of them. She possessed no memories of ever being one of Orochimaru's experiments, and Danzo, who used to be buddy-buddy with the rogue ninja, hadn't known about her either.
He chuckled. "Don't play the fool." With his free hand, he reached into his robes and pulled out a journal- her journal, one from her childhood.
"Where did you get that?" She asked.
"I'm afraid it slipped through one of Lady Tsunade's piles of paper," Danzo said. He tapped the book and added, "You have quite an ability."
"And let me guess, you want to recruit me for your services? I'm afraid I've given you the wrong impression with this." She drank from her glass and added, "You see, I can't do that anymore. Lord Third saw to that, and for good reason."
"You can't do that yet," he corrected. "I've looked into your medical file. You have a seal, and it's weakening, isn't it? It must be very serious, after all, the Hokage's lapdog has been with you twenty-four seven these past few days."
She crossed her arms. Pain shot up her hand, and she grit her teeth as her fingers twitched. "What of it?"
"I happen to be an expert on seals, and rare abilities," he replied. "We could be of great use to each other." He tapped his head and added, "For example, I have a seal that blocks anyone from entering my mind- I created it myself. I could make a seal for you- one that would stop you from looking people in the eye and seeing their worst nightmares. It would make going out much easier for you. Or, perhaps, you need help controlling your abilities. I've trained many a ninja who have unique jutsus as well."
"No offense, but I'm not a fan of your methods," she replied. The wave of pain passed, and she took a deep breath.
He leaned forward, and Chiisai didn't move as he said, "You have the power to kill nations, stop war, to strengthen Konoha in a way that goes beyond the nine-tails. You have the power of a god, and you're too afraid to use it, just like the Third Hokage."
"You don't know anything about me, or my power- you've never seen it," she replied. Her tone hardened as she narrowed her eyes. "But I've seen what you've done. Stealing babies, experimenting on them, forcing children to fight to the death for your own little army- you don't care about anyone unless you can use them for your own purpose. I won't be a pawn in your game."
