Koshuu grit his teeth in the dimly lit tunnel. He looked at Chiisai and then to Kakashi. His gaze was hard, his posture confident. The man had no idea what was happening, but that didn't mean he was naive to the situation.

"Go ahead and kill me," Koshuu said. The man tightened his grip on Koshuu.

Well, Kakashi had to hand it to him, the man had guts.

Chiisai's eyes were wide as they flickered to Kakashi, and she shook her head. Around her, his hounds bared their teeth at the enemy.

A small trail of blood trickled down Koshuu's throat, and Chiisai immediately stepped forward, extending her arm out.

"Wait!" She said. "I'll come."

The ninja turned his attention to Chiisai, and Koshuu shook his head. The ninken staid back, but their bodies were alert, ready to spring at a moment's notice.

"I'm no fool," the man said. "I know who the copy ninja is. Call off your hounds, and shut that eye of yours."

Kakashi held his hand up, and his ninken trotted back to him.

In a flash, Kakashi appeared behind the masked man and thrust his chidori into his back. The kunai fell out of his hand and hit the ground next to Koshuu's feet.

But in reality, the man had simply fallen backwards, unconscious, and Kakashi had then yanked his headband down, the genjutsu complete.

Chiisai ran to Koshuu, and the two collided as she crushed him in a hug.

Koshuu paused, and slowly, put his arms around her.

She pulled away and jabbed her finger in his chest, saying, "Don't ever get kidnapped again, you idiot! You almost died!"

Emotions flooded him at seeing Chiisai with Koshuu, but he swallowed them down, locking them tightly in his heart.

"Lesson learned," Koshuu said. He glanced down at the body behind him. "What...just happened? Is the leaf under attack?"

Kakashi tapped his headband and said, "Genjutsu. Where's Mizuki?"

"She's being a badass and fighting three ninja at once, while I'm getting kidnapped," he said. Koshuu picked up the kunai, and his gaze flickered back to Chiisai. "I'm starting to think that this has something to do with you, which sounds crazy, because you're not a ninja."

Chiisai said, "It's a long story, and I'm so sorry I got you involved in this. Kakashi," she said, turning to him, "you need to help Mizuki. I can't...she can't die because of me."

"She knows the stakes," Kakashi said. "And she entrusted you to me."

Chiisai shook her head, and she strutted toward Kakashi. "She's old, and a medic-nin first. And she has no idea what the stakes are!"

He sighed and turned towards the darkness, watching, listening. Finally, he looked back at her and said, "She was at your sealing. Lord Third had you under watch the entire time."

She took a step back, and her eyebrows furrowed. "What? That doesn't make sense. She...she knew this whole time?" There was betrayal and hurt in her tone. "I don't...I don't remember her."

Koshuu pocketed the kunai and said, "Knew what? What's going on?"

Kakashi ignored him and replied, "She gave me orders not to come back for her, Chiisai. You understand?"

She was clearly in turmoil, and she took a deep breath, shaking her head. Finally, with tears in her eyes, and hands in fists, she looked up at Kakashi and nodded.
