Today you were told to travel to a city of lanterns. You involuntarily walked on, not stopping to help people when you ran into them, you walked and walked, never seeming to get tired or sore. You couldn't control it, your legs moved against you, you could move other parts of your body, but it still pained you and even scared you when you were reminded this wasn't you doing it, which was most of the time. You approached the city and once you were in bounds you had control again. You tried to run out of the city but as soon as you were at the edge your legs jumped back and you gained control again. You just stood there, when faced with a challenge you seemed to do just that. You turned around and walked off, like a good teacher's pet. You were in public and on the verge of panicking, so you recited comforting words in your head.

You calmed down after a while, but not enough to still be over-observant of your surroundings, memorizing everyone's faces, an attempt to know who got hurt so you can describe if needed. You made it to the center, a lantern just above you. You looked at it with hatred, it was the last Samadhi ring. You needed to get it before everyone else. You were lost in thought when someone tapped on your shoulder. You turned to be met with someone you missed dearly, Mei. you didn't realize she asked a question until she waved her hand in your face with a smile. "Hello?" you blinked and panic flooded your head, she HAD to know it was you right? No. "so.. Are you here for the talent show?!" she asked a second time. You hid your face further and said in a high-pitched voice, "yes, you?" you looked a whole lot different from when she last saw you, your clothes were dirty and bags were under your eyes from the weeks you went without sleep. "Yep!" she said with a sweet smile.

Your heart ached knowing you're both enemies now and soon you'd have to fight her, or worse. You felt like crying, you couldn't bear it so you made up a lame excuse and ran away, leaving Mei dumbfounded. You turned the corner and climbed up a building. You looked below you seeing everyone else rush up to Mei. they laughed and giggled as she spoke. You smiled, seeing the people you cared for be happy made you happy. A hooded figure saw you out of the corner of their eye and looked up at you, it was Monkey King. you ran back quickly, trying not to be noticed but, too little too late. He glared in your direction and you could feel it no matter what was in your way. He went back to conversation, talking more quietly and everyone's faces looked solemn.

You felt so horrible being responsible for their unhappiness. You stalked away, focusing on what you came here for. You had no time to spare, you couldn't get attached. It was so easy. So you swore to yourself if you EVER saw them again, you'd leave. You can't risk getting hurt again, or worse, getting them hurt. You crawled your way to the ring, and went inside. No one was here, the show hadn't even started yet. You climbed the middle and got it, replaced it with a replica and left. It was too easy. But you needed it to be. You walked on, getting weird stares, you couldn't blame them, you looked insane. You accidentally bumped into a short figure and muttered a weak apology.

You left, unknowing of the empty bag where the ring once was.
