ACT XXIII: BURNING GUILT

         You put your foot back, ready to fight, but you were too slow again. The ice had covered you leaving your arms and head out. You were fumbling around, trying to get out of the ice. The rings were clutched in your hands as the place went gold. Macaque threatened to kill Mei if Tang didn't finish the ritual. So with a frown and solemn sigh he started it. Your eyes went wide and you tried to hold onto the rings as best as you could and failed as they floated away from you and higher up. There was an explosion of gold light that temporarily blinded you. It felt like a second went by when it had been 18 minutes. Your head shot up and you saw Mei erupt into red flames. The fire was so hot and the ice instantly melted. You fell to your knees and tried to get up to leave but the fire singed your legs and you were just covered in ice, you were numb.

          You tried to use your power to shield yourself but just like the ice it burned almost immediately. You groaned, trying not to cause panic as the full heat finally registered as you were close to Mei. You saw MK walk towards her with your eyes squinting. And the fire stopped. You looked over to see MK hugging Mei and propped yourself upon your elbows. You saw your chance to leave whatever was happening and tried to crawl away. Only to see two gold rings right in front of you. You slowly looked up, sweating bullets as you saw the pretty guy from before. You smiled weakly, eyes open wide and said weakly, "hEYyy, any chance you coULD, uhm, let go...?" your voice cracked multiple times intensifying the awkwardness.

          You looked behind you once again propping yourself on your elbows and saw Mei fly away in her fire ball. She didn't deserve to feel like this, no one did. But you were all in pain. You felt a bit of tugging at the front of your shirt and you were harshly lifted from your shirt. You grabbed on and tried to get the pretty boy to let go. He only stayed serious and cold. So you just awkwardly stayed there and tried to get out with words, "hiya buddy, pal, pretty boy. This is all a misunderstanding... If you could just put me down, I'll be on my way, and you'll never see me again!" he only brought you closer to his face and said in a cold tone, "you will stay and pay for what you did. " Your expression changed from awkward to scared out of your wits. He threw you to the ground, adding bruises that were already bad.

         You saw the others crowd around a sad and crying MK. You just laid there, guiltily. You could've done something, ANYTHING, but you were selfish and tried to hurt them with the excuse of protecting yourself. You wanted to cry but your tears have been used up and dried. After a while you resumed attempting to crawl away, seeing as how your legs were burned but not too bad. You used your powers a little but you were still tired. Especially now that you were free from LBD's curse. All your exhaustion caught up to you. You could feel your eye bags intensify and your limbs grow weak. You were slowly lifted up by Sandy and he held you like a cat. You burst into tears, you felt like a child, all the suffering you went through, you decided you deserved to be childish. Sandy pulled you closer and you were now crying into his beard. He might not have known but that little action meant everything.

         It didn't mean you were forgiven, but you were safe.
