My light sleep doesn't seem to last long because it feels like only minutes have passed when a rough shove to my side hurls me off of the bed.
I feel pain explode from my side again when I hit the ground and squeeze my eyes shut, biting my lip and trying not to make any noise. I hear footsteps coming around the bed and weakly turn my self around. I see the masked male from before, Masky who had ordered me to show up to training approaching me...
"You're starting to get on my last nerves, Rogers," He growled, suddenly reaching and grabbing my arm, pulling me up off the ground. I lurched over from the wound on my side and Masky tilts his head. "What the hell did you do to yourself?"
"I honestly don't know anymore. All I know is that I can't go 'hunt' with you today..." I try to respond without too much fear and pain wracking my voice. "You know the rules; missions commence wether you're injured or not. Besides we have strength enhancers so you can do your job. You know this, so stop sitting around and being lazy!"
Masky turned and started pulling me out of the room and I helplessly stumbled behind him. He led me downstairs and into a basement that was well hidden beside the kitchen area. At this point, I'm just wishing and hoping I pass out from stress so they'd leave me alone but I doubt even that would do a thing to save me.
In the basement, the other proxies were there and they all had weapons in hand. Weapons covered in real dry blood...I ...
"Go get your hatchets for missions," Masky said, shoving me towards a rack that held some old hatchets with different colored handles. "Kate, give Toby a strength enhancer, he'll need it."
The proxy Kate pulled something out of her pocket—a pill bottle and started walking over towards me. I turn to her and she places a gray pill in my hand. I glare at it for a long time before glancing at her, and she slowly nods her head. I shutter before popping the pill in my mouth and immediately the strangest effects occurred...
The pain from nail-inflicted wound X-Virus gave me immediacy numbed out and the rest of my body seemed to just feel stronger in general. "What the hells in that pill..." I whisper under my breath. I then walk without any problems to the rack with the hatchets and grab two just like Toby uses. I was able to hold them with ease unlike before, and I swung them around my hands, shocked by how light they actually felt now.
"Let's go, no more delaying. The boss expects us to get the job done before evening," Hoodie spoke up, starting to head out of the basement. The others quickly followed after him and I took my time following them as well.
I'm wondering if I can probably hang at the back and not actually end up having to kill someone, because I refuse to do it. I may hate people and sometimes fantasize beating the living shit out of deserving assholes but I am not a murderer.
We're just about to walk out of the mansion when I see Jane running down the stairs and spotting me. "(Y—TOBY! Where are you going!?"
"Jane—" I exclaim, getting ready to run towards her but one of the proxies, grab my arm and pulls me behind them before I could run off. "Mission first!" It was Rogue who snapped at me. I looked at Jane helplessly and I was forced through the doors and out of the mansion.
Once we left the woods, the group led way to MY neighborhood, and I started panicking when the proxies start sneaking down the row of houses I lived on. 'My luck couldn't possibly get any worse' I think as we get closer and closer to where my house was. Luckily, we stop just right before my house—at my neighbors house and Hoodie leads the way to the backyard.
I'm about to follow but I hear the door open from next door—my house, and my head jolts around. I see both my dads walk out, laughing and talking together. I then see the fucking impossible limping between them and talking with them, smiling from ear to ear.
The REAL FRICKIGN TOBY?!
"HEY!" I scream at the top of my lungs, but faster than anything else could occur, Hoodie sweeps me away from were I could be seen and hurls me into my neighbors backyard where the others were waiting.
"Are you absolutely fucking stupid!? What's wrong with you!?" He whisper-yelled at me. "I don't know why he's been acting like this all of a sudden. It's like he's worse than he was before," Masky scowled, crossing his arms. "We don't have time for this! Let's just go!" Kate sneered, grabbing Masky's rusty crowbar from his hand and heading over to the back door, starting to force it open.
Wh-What do I do?? Do I run back to the front and to my Dads? Reveal the truth? Go take these hatchets and kill the real Toby? Wouldn't that just make the proxies downright kill me and my Dads then and there if they find out?
"Start walking Rogers," Masky's sharp growl snaps me out of my thoughts and I start following Hoodie as he leads everyone into the house.
I look around scared and nervous because this is my neighbors house and I know him. Jim is usually quiet neighbor and thinks I'm a really weird person(I just like weirding him out) but he is at least nice. He's always friendly to my Dads and he's even the one to help them out with getting new things for me when they first adopted me. I always thought that was neat of him.
"Downstairs room on the right," Rogue informed the others. "Whose the assault tonight?"
Of-fucking-course all masks turned to me. I almost cursed out loud but managed to keep quiet. "Let's go, Toby," Kate whispered, stalking towards the room Rogue mentioned. I warily followed Kate and Hoodie came with us and Rogue and Masky stayed behind, keeping watch near the back and front of the house.
My heart pounds as Kate forces the door open and inside I see Jim is there in his room just sitting in his rocking chair and reading a book when Kate and Hoodie storm inside.
"Wh—HELP!!!" Jim screamed, immediately jumping up and tripping off the chair. Kate goes over and grabs him roughly, then shoved him back onto the chair. Hoodie pulls out some very thick ropes and starts tying it around Jim's body and the chair, keeping him strapped down. Kate shoved some cloth in his mouth so and he begins to mumble and cry.
"Mission #487, Victim #347," Kate spoke, cracking her head to the side and pulling out a voice recorder, "Jim Hawthorne. 64 years old. American, retired school teacher, somehow very familiar with our woods. Status: Alive, in progress of elimination. Victim 347's assailant: Toby Erin Rogers."
Kate puts the recorder away and I'm standing before my neighbor all tied up and shaking in his own home with two other murderers egging me on to do something I never wanted to be caught up in in the first place.
"Toby. Go ahead, what are you waiting for?" Hoodie hissed lowly. I nervously pull the two hatchets from the belt and held them shakily in my hand as I start walking up to Jim. Seeing him so scared and panicky made me feel a different way. I feel bad for all the times I tried to creep him out and annoy him just to make fun of him. Now, the last laugh would be me murdering him.
Except, this time, I wasn't laughing.
I stood there and slowly raised the hatchets, looking down on Jim with widened eyes.
You're going to be a killer now. A murderer. Innocent people will die because of you. Your Dads will die because of you. Say goodbye to life as you once knew it.
Something inside of me tipped off by those very thoughts, and I feel the energy and strength from the pill before surging through my veins. A faulty smile starts to form on my face and the functioning of my brain completely slows down. I don't know what this feeling was that I felt now, but I wasn't going to be held back anymore. I'll do the deed I'm now being forced to do.
I look at Jim before suddenly swinging both of the hatchets....
And watch with a grin as the blades slice into Kate and Hoodie's torsos.
