This is it. My first time stepping a foot outside our unit. I never asked my father why he kept me there for 18 years, but then again, questions like that are never meant to be asked by anyone.

I spent most of those years in training and studying. The rest are probably just mopping around and watching the sun and moon. However, throughout those years of spending time for my destined future, there was always a feeling that eats me up every time a class ends or when my instructor declares a quick break.

I held the pendant around my neck, it was the only thing that gives me hope and a sense of happiness every time thoughts like that invades my head. It was a present passed from my mother that she gave to my father the day before she passed away. Although it happened a long time ago, I still feel sad that I didn't even get to touch or see her face.

I held it tightly before falling onto the line that was already being formed by other people who has the same age as me.

I wasn't the only one who spent those 18 years of studying and training, there were a lot of us but not even a single one of them talked to me. I guess it's because everything needs to work in a routine, and making friends will be just a hindrance to time.

"Rookies, on my count." Instructor Hendrick shouted, easily gathering everyone's attention.

My eyes roamed all the people who were around me as we walk. They look...average. We all have the same clothes and stoic looks. I really don't take the stoic expression seriously, my father used to say that I got it from my mother.

My father, Clyde Groves, is the well-known respected leader of our movement. He never gave me special treatment just because I was his daughter and I am glad he decided to choose that because I learned to be independent.

After minutes of walking, we made it to the landing area where all the aircraft are displayed. We were divided into groups of four, and the ones who were boarding with me doesn't look like trouble.

Kids who act irrationally still exist and they are the ones who are treated unfairly. Instead of sleeping in their own unit, they sleep at their own posts as a Nightwatch. I still think that they don't deserve that because it's like sacrificing them to the wild beasts out there.

Our aircraft started to arise from the ground and then we were already in the skies. My eyes can still see the other sections separated from where I live. It's amazingly full of a lot of people. A small smile appeared on my lips as I happily watched the families live freely without having problems with death.

This is the particular reason why I chose the same path as my father. Someday, I would like to have that position he has. I could only imagine all the things I could do to bring change to the new Earth. There's probably a lot to improve...but I will save that when I grew older, stronger, and wiser.

The clouds started to block my view from the other sections so I decided to look at the people sitting around me instead. To my surprise, they have already beat me to it because their eyes are already trained on me like a prying predator.

"Hey, you're the kid of Senior Clyde, right?" The girl with a scar across her eyebrows asked.

I was too late to notice it. It wasn't only her who has scars, it was all of them. The guy beside the girl has one below his lips and the guy beside me has one below the right side of his jaw.

"Yes, that's who I am."

The three of them nodded but that didn't stop them to ask more questions.

"Do you think that someday you'll be our boss?" The guys beside me sarcastically said.

They laughed at his remark except me. It wasn't really funny, to begin with. Are they really forgetting that there are microphones attached to the jackets they are wearing now? Instructor Hendrick can literally hear what they are saying.

I composed myself and removed my eyes from looking at them. They kept on talking but I remained quietly seated while looking at the clouds we passed.

"Hey, we're talking to you." The loud voice of the girl interrupted me from getting lost at the sight of the clouds.

I still didn't pay attention to them, which I think only made them more furious because the guy beside me is inching closer.

My instincts are telling me that he's going to hurt me, but my head says that we're inside an aircraft that can maneuver in a different direction if we all excessively move inside. Why did they even group me with the troublemakers?

"Anne, don't even bother. She's probably going to cry and tell her daddy about it once we land."

Their laughs started to fill my head. I closed my eyes and inhaled a large amount of air before opening them again, looking straight at the three of them.

The girl scoffed and was followed by the challenging looks in their eyes.

"We will see who's going to cry."
