It was almost midnight and Kalia should be on her way here now. I didn't change my uniform because I could still use it as a cover if someone saw me wandering around the hallways at midnight.

Once I made sure that the device was carefully placed in my pocket, I went outside my room. There are only a few securities roaming around the hallway so getting spotted has a low probability.

I still took the blindspots on my way to the medical bay, and I fortunately succeeded. I slowly closed the door behind me and went to Angelie's bed. A sigh escaped my lips when I saw her still lying there and not gone.

I lifted Angelie up and threw her over my shoulders. She's actually not that heavy.

I used my keycard to open the door but someone blocked our way outside. It was Doctor Bailey, smiling down at us like she knew this was going to happen.

"I knew you got something up on your sleeves, but this won't do."

Doctor Bailey offered her hand, I mindlessly brought Angelie down and carried each of her arms over our shoulders. I gave Doctor Bailey a sincere smile but I am still clueless about why she's helping us when she could get banned from the Council by doing this.

"I used to know her mother, Analise. We were close friends way back then." A dreamy smile appeared on Doctor Bailey's lips. That was something unexpected coming from Doctor Bailey, they must have met for only a short time.

"Then you know what was happening to her?"

Doctor Bailey nodded and then her face was washed over with sadness. "I'm afraid that it is happening to her daughter too."

I paused and I can't seem to find any words to say. I looked at Doctor Bailey and she smiled at me with sympathy. Well, I don't need any sympathy right now, my friend is in a very delicate situation.

I grabbed the device from my pocket and contacted Kalia to tell her that we are on our way outside now. She responded back and said that she was already outside the place where I told her to meet us. I nodded my head towards the bathroom, Doctor Bailey nods and we both lifted Angelie again.

I opened our hatch and went down first. Doctor Bailey brought Angelie down but she stayed where she was standing.

"This is where we part ways. Don't worry, she'll wake up soon."

"I know that you're not telling me something, Doctor Bailey." I darted my eyes at her.

Doctor Bailey released a heavy sigh before closing the hatch and walking away. I looked down at the still unconscious Angelie, she looked so weak.

I carried her over my shoulder again and made our exit towards the tunnel. I peeked outside and saw the same vehicle Kalia drove and took that as our cue to climb up. Kalia must have heard movements because she rushed to lift Angelie up.

"I got you, I got you."

"Thank you." I panted as I climbed up.

Kalia brought Angelie to the backseat and we quickly drove away from the Council.

"It's happening to her...just like what happened to her mother."

I rested my head against the window with a thud, I felt Kalia's hand holding mine and I instantly felt relaxed.

"You're not alone on this, Anne."

A small smile broke on my face and I rested my head against her shoulder instead while she drives.

We drove for what seemed like an eternity until we reached a place where I can clearly see the ocean. My eyes spotted two tall gates and that's when I knew that we reached Valhalla, the last remaining town of Remnants.

I left the car first and was followed by Kalia, we went to open the doors and carefully lifted Angelie.

"Folley! Lane!" Kalia called out. Two people quickly approached us and lifted Angelie.

"They are taking her to the clinic," Kalia reassured me which calmed me down.

My eyes roamed the town and all I can say is that it was not like Taran or Jahanel. The people are all moving and helping each other, but I can barely see any children.

"Where did all the children go?"

"They went with some of our elderly across the ocean to live there for a while until everything is safe."

I nodded and searched for the person who should be excited to see us back, unfortunately, I can't still feel her presence.

"Where is Chantel?"

Kalia pursed her lips and looked anywhere but me. "About that...she went kind of went rogue when you guys haven't been back for two days. All she told me was that she's going back to the Council to get you guys, until now we haven't heard from her."

Damn...Angelie won't like this when she wakes up.

"Let's go find her then."

Kalia shook her head which made me look at her in dismay. "Seriously?"

"She told me not to follow her under any circumstances."

I wiped my face in distress and thought of a plan, but how can we save someone who doesn't even want to be saved?

"The best we could do is to wait for her and hope that Angelie wakes up soon." Kalia offered me her hand and I took it without even blinking.

"If something bad happens to Chantel...I don't know how Angelie will react."

"Anne, I know that you know Chantel can handle herself, she's trained and prepared for this... especially if it's Angelie she's fighting for."
