"You're friends with Ange?" Clyde casually asked.

We were now on our way to Valhalla, while Clyde keeps on asking me this series of questions about everything.

"Yes, we're actually pretty close."

I heard Clyde hum in response and then the whole ride went silent again. It's colder here than I thought, I also noticed Clyde shivering from the cold air outside. I passed him the extra jacket that is neatly folded under my seat.

"Here."

Clyde accepted and wore the jacket instantly. We finally reached the outskirts and my eyes can see the beautiful view of the ocean under the moonlight. I rounded up to the corner and let the car rest outside the gates of Valhalla.

I let Clyde walk in front of me as I tailed him. I go here from time to time, but it feels like I am entering an unfamiliar town. Everything changed and I can't see the old Valhalla anymore because of the trees that have fallen and dried out, the houses that can barely hold themselves, and the people who have tired looks on their faces.

"Chantel!"

"Hey, kid."

I bent down to the ground and greeted the growing girl with a longing hug. It has been a while since I last saw Mara, she's the little sister of Grace who ruled Valhalla but unfortunately passed away from disease. It was only Mara now who is doing responsibility for her sister, I can't even imagine all the hardships she has surpassed at such a young age. I once offered her and all her people to come live with us at Taran, but just like her fierce sister, she humbly declined.

"Come on, someone is waiting for you." By the tone of her voice, I think I already know who it is.

"Oh, this is Clyde, Angelie's father."

Mara only looked up to Clyde and gave him a firm nod before grabbing my wrist just to drag me somewhere. I apologetically looked back to Clyde and he only shook it with an assuring smile.

"They're inside." Mara pointed to the door of their medical room. I hugged and thanked her again before going inside the quiet room.

"Chantel?! Thank goodness you're back!" It was Anne who ran towards me, enveloping me with a tight hug.

"Yeah, I am." I almost coughed for air because of how tight she was hugging me.

Anne let go and it was Kalia who greeted me next. "Chantel."

I gave Kalia a quick hug that she accepted and hugged me back. My eyes went to the person lying on the bed, it almost looks like she was just sleeping.

"Angelie." I breathed out and went to sit beside her. I gently caressed her hair and tucked some behind her ear.

"What did the medic says?" I asked the two behind me without giving them a single glance, I was too concentrated on the person lying on the bed.

"Actually, he wants to personally tell you...and he is already right here." Anne paused and we all looked at the person who just entered the room.

"I hope I am not interrupting..." The medic trailed off, I stood up and gave him enough space to examine Angelie.

"Is she going to be alright?"

The medic closed the small notebook he was holding, he turned to me and gave me a kind smile. "Her vital signs are still weak but her heartbeat is starting to get better, we gave her some fluids to help her be conscious again."

"But you didn't answer my question, is she going to be alright?" My voice came out harsh but the medic only looked at me with sympathy.

"Eventually, she's going to be, but it might take us some days before she can go back to her healthy state. Her case is quite odd...something I haven't looked into since I started being a medic here."

It felt like my heart dropped a beat because no matter how optimistic my heart is, my brain knows what exactly is happening to Angelie. I just hope that she will be different because she's not full-blooded like me.

"That will be all, Doctor," Kalia said and the medic nodded his head to us before leaving the room.

I sat back down along with the tears that started to itch my eyes, I quickly wiped them and gently held Angelie's hands into mine. "You need to wake up soon...you will always find your way back to me, right?"

I rested my forehead against her hands and I started to cry. I felt a pair of hands comforting my back but what I was feeling was so strong that I can't seem to stop crying. Kalia and Anne started to hug me as I remained crying beside Angelie.

I need to be strong for us, but why do I feel like I am starting to lose half of myself by looking at you?
