Prompt: 'That night I was happy'
(Word Count 148 Words)Music and merriment filled the air. I gracefully drifted around in my ballgown. Despite being told several times that I was 'quite a beauty', my heart was heavy tonight at my debutante ball as Princess of Araluen. I bore the night behind a diplomatic smile, politely engaging in conversation and dancing with several suitors. I was eventually saved by Caspian, my close companion. As he led me away from the crowd and into the gardens, I laughed,
"Thank goodness, I could not have lasted another minute!"
In return, he gave a bow, reaching out his hand,
"May I have this dance?"I gingerly grasped his hand, and he drew me close under the beautiful night sky. We danced, lost in each other's eyes. That night I was happy. But we both knew it could not last forever. A ranger and a princess? Never could we be truly together.
