Dearest Mother,
I am writing to you from a far off country. Please do not try to get me back. Trust me when I say that this is for the better. The only way to protect the family is to fight in this war. I truly am sorry it came to this, but I am doing this for you. I shall try to write when I can, but I cannot guarantee that I shall have enough supplies, as rations are strict, or much spare time.
I miss you. Stay safe and look after the family for me. Send my love to Beth and Margaret, please tell them that I'm sorry for running away. Keep an eye on Tommy, you know how he always gets into mischief. If he asks where I am, just tell him that his big brother is helping to fight baddies, like Captain America.
