Prompt: What made you cry
(Word Count: 149 Words)My beloved Grandfather lay upon the hospital bed. He was so still, as he had been for many days. I glanced at the heart monitor and frowned, "That's not good. His heartrate is slowing. I'd better get help"
"No..." I abruptly turned to the still figure laying on the bed. He spoke, his voice cracked and hoarse, every word causing pain, "Leave it be. My life has been fulfilled"
I gazed at him in despair. He nodded affirmation, and I closed the door. Then I pulled my seat to the bedside and held his cold hands with my own. I gazed into his pale, gaunt face. His breathing became shallow. With great effort, he looked at me,
"Be brave". Then, in only a few moments, death took him.
"No!" I choked out, and sobs began to wrack my body. Great cries that took away my breath. He was gone.
