Prompt: The colour of midnight
(Word Count: 146 Words)Sleep evaded me, for my mind was restless. Worries, thoughts, feelings...
After tossing back and forth for a while, I gave up and slipped out of my bed. Standing on the small balcony adjacent to my room, my arms resting on the balustrade, I stooped, resting my head on my hands, as I gazed out at the peaceful night sky with a sigh. Watching as, one by one, the small flickering pinpoints of light from the surrounding village – were snuffed out. My thoughts wandered as I watched, oh how I wish to be free. But as I gaze upon what is to soon be my kingdom, I knew that I had a responsibility to my people. Still, my heart was heavy as I thought of what had to be done. As the rich, dark indigo colour of midnight washed over me, I sobbed to the sky.[Authors Note: Princess had to give up her lover to rule the kingdom and that is why she is sorrowful that she, having no choice, had to give him up. Her name could be Fiona? Could be linked to 'Night of Happiness' story]
