Prompt: It arrived on Tuesday
(Word Count: 144 Words)It arrived on Tuesday. A crate, sealed shut by half a dozen nails, all the airholes boarded up. I called my spouse, but he assured me that he knew nothing of the mysterious package. With no return address taped to it and no obvious origin, I felt a sense of caution. My foreboding only grew when the growls started. Cruel, inhuman growls. Then came the caterwauling of the wild beast trying to escape. Wrought with worry, sleep slipped through my fingers. Whatever was I meant to do? Fear overtaking me, I left the crate in the hallway. The sounds coming from it causing me to skittishly scamper every time I passed it. It has been days, and it still lives, despite the lack of light and air. I came down this morning and the crate was open, the lid ripped off.
It was empty.
