Hunter pulled his car in behind my dads truck and we got out. "I'm suddenly very nervous." I said stopping in my tracks. "And oddly enough you're looking a little green." He said peering at me. "Maybe we should just go." I said turning around. "Too late we've been spotted there's your dad." He turned me back around. "I've just never brought a guy home for them to meet and I can't breath." "Well don't pass out on me. Come on I'll hold your hand."
He took my hand as my dad opened the door. "Well come in here you two." My dad beckoned. We walked up. I gave him a big hug as he held the door opened. "Dad this is Hunter." I said. He put his hand out. "Mike Beasley, nice to meet you son." We walked in passed him and I gave my mom a hug. "Mom this is Hunter." I said. My mom gave him a hug and we took a seat in the living room.
Just breath: what I was saying over and over again in my head. "Well what do you do?" My dad asked. Of course he was concerned about that. He wanted a guy who could take care of me. "I'm a singer sir." Hunter said clearing his throat and wiping his hands on his shorts. "Are you any good?" My dad asked narrowing his eyes at Hunter. "Uh...well...I'd like to think so. I got a record deal...well I...uh..." Hunter stopped talking and looked at me.
"Dad he's good they play him on the radio, I know you don't listen to Country music but.." "Oh of course you do, right." Dad nodded. "Well I'd like to give you the speech 'if you're going to marry my daughter.' but it seems you already have so I'll give you the 'so you've married my daughter speech.'"
I could see the fear in Hunters eyes then it flashed to pain. He was going to let my father down when we tell him that we weren't going to stay together. He's going to get blamed for possibly breaking my heart. I didn't like the idea but one ounce of me did because I wouldn't be the only one blamed in this.
"Ok." Hunter looked at my dad. I took his hand. "I am glad my daughter has found somebody to spend the rest of her life with. I hope that you'll do right by her and take care of her. And don't break her heart."
"Oh yes sir." Hunter said. It was so cute and sweet how he said yes sir to my dad. "Well how did you two meet?" My mom asked changing the subject. "At a work function. I had designed some stuff in the line and Hunter was asked to sing. We just hit it off." I said. "Oh that's beautiful." She said. "Well she needs somebody to take care of her, you know now that she's lost her job." My mom sighed.
Hunters eyes got big. "Well... Your daughter is very talented. I think it was a smart move to separate from that job. If she wasn't being valued for her amazing talent. Now she has the option to do exactly what she want's with her own line." Hunter said defending me. I couldn't be more touched. "Oh you're starting your own line?" My mom asked. "Yes, when the old line wanted me to compromise my creative integrity i knew i had to leave. I had no choice." I said hoping she would understand and maybe support me.
"I've started drawing everything and in Hunter's or well our Music/design room I have my drawing's tacked up I took a back seat to start on my wedding dress but i am confident i can do it all." I said beaming. My mom squinted her eyes and smoothed down her brown hair. My mom and I didn't look a thing alike. Neither did my dad or I. There used to be a running joke that I came from the mail man. I was the only one who didn't find that joke funny.
My mom looked like my older sister and my dad looked like my younger sister. I never fit in that well with my family I possibly thought I was adopted but there are pictures of my mom holding me in the hospital and there is a birth certificate. I'm not sure who I got my looks from though.
