Chapter 14: Apologies

It was already past 1 am. Yoongi was driving back to Taehyung's apartment with Jimin at the passenger's seat. Jimin was leaning on the window. He was exhausted. Taehyung drank some more after singing. Then he vomited and almost got into a fight. Jimin looked back at him at the backseat. He saw that he was passed out. Yoongi noticed. He glanced at him for a second.

"I'm sorry. He's a handful." Yoongi apologized.

"It's fine. He's your cousin." Jimin smiled.

"Yeah. He's my cousin. Not yours."

"But he's also my friend."

"You consider him as a friend?"

"Uh. We started on the wrong foot but he isn't that bad. I like him."

"You like him?" Yoongi eyed him.

Jimin laughed. "I mean he seemed really arrogant but he's actually soft and nice."

"Is this the part when you expect me to say that he's actually nice and he's just hiding it? Well, he's not. This. This is all new. Jungkook brought out something in him that nobody has ever done before. Not even Jisoo."

"Who's Jisoo?" Jimin asked

"His first love. I'll tell you their story one day. But you know whatever happens. Whether those two end up together or not, Taehyung's going to learn something out of this. We're here."

They were now in front of Kim's Crown Plaza.

"Taehyung, wake up." Jimin shook him.

Taehyung opened his eyes slowly. He looked out the window and the first thing he saw was the convenience store. Jimin and Yoongi forgot about the time. Taehyung hopped out of the car and quickly walked towards it. The two scrambled to follow him.

Jungkook was behind the counter when Taehyung came in. He got shocked. But mostly, he felt shy. He had watched a video. The one where Taehyung sang his heart out and asked him to come back. He didn't expect him to do it. Jimin did say, through a message, that he changed his mind about the bet. But he was still mad at him. Mad and hurt. Taehyung wronged him.

Taehyung was standing in front of him when he said,

"You said that if I want to do something, I need to think about it twice, thrice or many times. And I thought about this. Seven times to be exact. But it's still what I want to do. I want to run here, to you, and apologize. I smell drunk but believe me, I'm not. I'm completely sober. I mustered up some natural courage to tell you... that I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. For what I said and for what I did. I should have cherished it. Your secret. Your fears. Because you entrusted them to me. But instead I used them to against you. I'm really sorry. I didn't think twice when I did it. That's why I fucked up. I'm sorry I lied about what happened. I was hurt so I wanted to hurt you too."

Yoongi and Jimin were standing by the entrance when Taehyung spoke. Yoongi could not believe his ears. He felt emotional. Taehyung was apologizing. He knew him since they were young and he has always been prideful. It's hard for him to accept his faults. But he got more shocked with what Taehyung did next. He kneeled on both knees. Jungkook was stunned.

"Taehyung, get up." Jungkook said as he rushed to pull him up.

"I'm not kneeling to embarrass you into forgiving me. I just want to let you know that I'd give my pride away if that will make you believe that I'm really sorry. I hope you forgive me one day. Someday."

Taehyung was looking up at Jungkook, staring at his eyes. He was looking down at him, thinking. The past few days were hell. He woke up and slept feeling angry and betrayed. He'd imagined and rehearsed what he would say to him once he finally see his face. He promised himself that he would not give in easily. Even if he asks for forgiveness, despite it being unlikely. Seokjin did say, when he visited him, that Taehyung doesn't know how to apologize.
