Chapter 29: A Long Night

Jungkook watched as a doctor and a nurse labored behind the curtain to treat Taehyung. He came in unconscious with a gushing wound on the right side of his scalp. His right cheek was also bloodied and scraped. Jungkook was dazed. He stared blankly at his limp and lifeless feet. His heart raced when the nurse swiftly left the emergency room at the doctor's request. He briefly interrupted her to ask if there's something wrong. She told him Taehyung just needs blood. He lost way too much from bleeding. But he should not worry. It didn't matter. He was already worried. Worried and terrified.

At one point, a nurse came to him to ask if he knew the patient. He nodded absentmindedly and gave her his name. Then she asked if he already notified the family. Jungkook handed her his phone and quietly stated Seokjin's name. Despite the confusion, the nurse eventually understood what he was asking her. She left him after.

Jungkook was not sure if it was really that long. But he stood and waited in what seemed like forever. He was finally able to breathe normal when the doctor came out looking calm. She told him Taehyung's safe and they only needed to wait. However, she found his heartbeat strange. It was beating slower than normal. She asked him to call whenever whatever happens.

He strode towards the bed and pulled the single stool provided. He sat down and took Taehyung's hand on to his own. His hand felt cold. He rubbed it to give it warmth. Then his eyes brimmed and he started to weep.

"What happened?" He asked him. "Where were you? Why did you hurt yourself?"

He leaned his head down on his mattress, still holding his hand.

"You wake up quickly. I don't want to see you like this. I can't look at you like this." He wept. "Wake up already. You can't sleep long. You can't leave me here alone."

"Jungkook, he was just resting." Seokjin tearfully told him.

He turned to him. "Hyung." He called, tears streaming down his face.

Seokjin came close and gave him a big, comforting hug. He pat his back. "He'll wake up soon."

Jungkook nodded and wiped his nose.

"You know what happened?" Seokjin inquired.

Taehyung was transferred to a private ward minutes later. Seokjin asked for the responders' report on the incident. They said that a woman called for the emergency. Jungkook then remembered about Ellie. Taehyung was found sprawled in front of a condominium building, the responders stated. He didn't smell drunk but was completely knocked out. It could have been attributed to his injury. But they have noted that his heart rate and breathing were slower than normal. It wasn't certain but one responder suspected that he might have been drugged. He got familiar because of some cases he encountered.

Seokjin and Taehyung's parents arrived a little later.

"What happened to your brother?" Mr. Kim angrily asked. "Did he go around drunk doing stupid things and got himself into an accident? It's all over the news! Our stocks are being affected."

"Dad, he was not drunk. It was really an accident." Seokjin explained.

"What happened in the first place? If your brother is just thinking like he's supposed to. We wouldn't be in this mess."

Jungkook was glad that Taehyung cannot hear his dad at the moment. He is mean.

"Are you the one with him?" Mr. Kim abruptly turned to Jungkook. His eyes widened. He forgot how to speak.

"He's not. He just came in to visit." Seokjin saved.

"Who was he with? Where are his possessions?" Jungkook let out a breath of relief.
