We were out to celebrate. The night was young and cold, and our outfits were guaranteed to score us free drinks.
Splitting up, I stayed at the bar whilst my friends went off onto the dance floor. The music was loud, so much so that I didn't register the man next to me trying to strike up a conversation.
Trying to get my attention, he put his hand on my shoulder and I moved away in response. He didn't like that however, and grumbled out something or the other before leaving.
"Can I help you miss?"
Frozen by the familiarity. I refused to turn around. Unlike the man before, his voice was clear as glass. I assumed the worst, and ran for the bathrooms. I felt sure that I was about to puke, that my drink had been spiked or something. Anything was more plausible than him being here.
Hell, this wasn't even his turf. It was no man's land.
Wandering in after me, he stood like a stain in the middle of the women's bathrooms.
"You're not allowed in here."
"I knew it was you Baby. There was something familiar about the way you just never seemed to notice shit."
"If you don't leave, I will."
"Not possible." His hand came up against the wall, the exit blocked by his muscled frame.
"What the fuck do you want from me now? Haven't I already given you everything?!"
"You still haven't changed, Baby."
"Course I haven't changed. I'm still the consistent loyal bitch I've always been. You though? You also haven't changed. Unreliable, hot tempered, narcissistic."
Pushing against his chest, I managed to get to the door. Just as I was about to open it and let the blaring music back in he said something that left me cold.
"You still wear it, after all these years."
Spinning on my heels, I shot him a look so furious and heated, hell could've felt the heatwave.
"Is that it? You want the ring back?"
He smiled, all slow and lazy, like he had all the time in the world. His nonchalance only angered me further, I hated his composure.
"I want to talk. I'd be fine yelling to, since that seems like what you're more comfortable with."
The strenght I'd been building for the last two years seeped out of me. His smile was my undoing. His smile is why I agreed to go to his apartment.
