Fatty had somehow managed to carry all of it over to the outdoor kitchen part of the camp, with out loosing anything on the way.

There were still some potatoes and other vegetables – his uncle had stacked up on at their last stop at the village – left. At this point Wu Xi wasn't even really interested in why they hadn't eaten them yesterday already, instead of the dry rations they had gotten.

No, he knew his uncle well enough that without the bad mood in the mercenary group and the work they probably still had to do after eating their dinner portion he wouldn't have allowed them to even look at the rest of the vegetables.

The thing Wu Xi actually wondered about was, how Fatty was able to stack all of them on top of each other and carry them over without any incident. If he had done it like this – no knowing himself it was impossible – he wouldn't have even managed to stack them up properly not even mention to walk like that.

At some point he would have grown frustrated enough to first argue with the potatoes about their behaviour of always jumping out of his hands and later he would have just given up and walked back and forth multiple times.

But now, with all the ingredients here Wu Xi at least knew, that they were cooking a simple vegetable stew. And that Zhang had asked Fatty to do the cooking for him.

And, that didn't sit right with him. Having to take care of himself rather often, he knew how to cook. He wasn't bad at it by any means any more.

And Zhang not trusting him with their dinner – it felt like an insult to his ability. It made him want to show that he could do it. And now that his cooking knife had already been taken away from him – he at least should help Fatty out properly.

That was what at least what Wu Xi decided to do, but somehow it just never ended up going that way.

When he decided to go fetch water for the stew, Wu Xi was really happy that Zhang decided to follow him. The way to the nearby stream wasn't extremely far, but he was still happy to have him around.

Only to wonder on his way back, how it came to be, that Zhang was carrying the bucked full of water now. When they finally arrived Fatty had somehow already completed peeling the potatoes and other veggies.

Noticing that they probably didn't have enough fire wood left for cooking Wu Xi wanted to pick up some only for the pile to suddenly grow big enough so they wouldn't need any more. Pan Zi had returned only for a second, just to head out again immediately.

It felt like everything that Wu Xi tried to do was taken out of his hand. Everything he noticed was suddenly taken care of. He was just the addition, the other person that was standing there.

He wasn't useless. Wu Xi almost swore to himself.

He just had to show that he could be dependent on so why, why was every chance taken away from him?
