With the loss of Fattys arms Wu Xie was as good as alone in the mist again. As far as he could see there was no one else. Even though objectively he knew that both Fatty and Qiling had to be close by. The rope connecting them wasn't the shortest surely but it wasn't that long either.
No longer than 20 meters, if he had to estimate it was probably a bit more than 15.
Sighing, Wu Xie took the next few steps down the stairs. It was impossible for him to see where he was putting his feet so instead he tried to feel it out. Carefully placing his them down on where the next step should be.
While doing that, he remembered that Fatty had complained about his slow movement. That he had pushed Wu Xie along while they were walking together. Could it be? Had Fatty overtaken him without noticing after letting go?
It was possible. And Wu Xie was just about to call and ask, if that was the case, when he spotted a large shadow in front of him.
It seemed like Fatty had – and had noticed and was even waiting right now. Allowing the air in his lungs to flood out in relief he approached the shadow – carefully. He didn't need to stumble now and make them both fall down the stairs.
He didn't even know how much longer they were going on. And he didn't have a pebble to try and test it out – it would have been an extremely rough estimate anyway. Qiling, probably knew.
Wu Xie stretched out his hand towards the shadow – wanting to tell Fatty that he was here now, that they could go. Telling him that he should be more careful not to overtake him next time. Ready that the other one would complain about his snail pace again.
But then – "Stone?" Wu Xie wondered, having stopped himself from shouting in surprise.
But, other than the last time this one was just stone. No, hype nothing slimy. Just the good old cold stone. It was almost relive that hit him – that this time he at least didn't touch something weird. Any way, Wu Xie remembered that he probably should tell that to the others.
After all, Fatty had walked even further left then him – when they has walked together and if Qiling was staying on the right side like they had said they would. Well, then Qiling should be to the right of that stone in front of him – and Fatty might just have walked by on it's left side.
"Guys, I think there is something in my way", Wu Xie said carefully. He didn't want to assume that that is what was happening but, at this point he kind of had to.
"A stone statue" Qiling answered from further down the stairs. "Be careful it has a few spikes and sharp edges."
"Ok – " Wu Xie didn't get further before he could hear Fatty murmuring about some stone statue and that he hadn't seen any and that Wu Xie was now behind him too.
That was when Wu Xie noticed that, he had been right. Looking at the rope that was connecting him to the other. One part of it was to the right, and the other to the left of the statue.
