Aaliyah

I entered the empty gymnasium, searching for the dressing rooms for Adelynn's ballet recital.

The signs made it easier to find them but shit we are in a high school.

It's her first recital ever and everyone is coming to see her.

Arianna says we act like she's Daphne but she's the one that got a professional photographer here for them AND then paid Jameson for only photos of Adelynn.

I eventually found the rooms and then her dressing room.

I looked around, seeing I don' really know any of the other moms here yet so we chilled in our own little corner just drawing in little attention.

I began doing her hair as she watched my phone.

I only did 2 pigtails, examining the length of her hair at such a young age.

She turned around, wanting to see the mirror.

As soon as I dug in the bag to pull it out, I got a whiff of something horrible and I needed to find the nearest restroom.

My eyes went wide and I scampered to get up.

I tried to hold it back because I didn't want to ruin all their things so I just ran, knowing one of the teachers would tend to Adelynn.

I was literally holding vomit in my hands as I approached a restroom and dropped everything I had into the stool.

I shakily dropped to my knees, I felt so weak as I caught my breath.

I had to calm down because I knew I could throw up some more if I didn't and I needed to breathe right now.

I felt so icky and hot now. I knew I needed to change.

I sat there for a while, making sure I was ok before I continued cleaning myself up.

I found my strength and proceeded to the car for my things to clean myself up.

I was going to change before the recital anyway but now I have the time.

I quickly checked on Adelynn, she was still into my phone, not even caring that I had been gone.

I dipped out to labelour seats, freshen up and when I returned I could hear the women chatting as I approached, causing everyone to let out relief.

"Where did you go? Adelynn's uncle came in and it was like you disappeared. He's looking for you in the building. He seemed very upset that you went missing." They informed me.

"I just felt a little queasy. I'm fine now." I smiled. "I'll just call him."

"Mhmmm." Dawn, another mom, looked at me funny.

"I wasn't going to say anything." Sherrie walked off with her hands raised.

"Here." Dawn passed me something.

"What's this?" I inspected it.

It appeared to be a lime green peppermint.

"My Abuelita, she's a herbalist and she makes these for pregnant, severely nauseated women." She placed lots of emphasis on the pregnant. "I promise I'm on them, too."

"I'm not—"

"Please don't waste your time." She stopped me from lying.

I remained silent then, only staring at her as tears welled in my eyes.

She weakly smiled at me. "And it feels like it's the worst timing in the world, huh." She pulled me into a hug.

"I honestly.. think we're about to get a divorce." I spoke the words so lowly, for the first time ever outloud.
