Meredith only found out about Ellis 3 years ago. She made her promise not to tell anyone, especially Derek. Everyone will try to intervene and we all know Ellis cares more about her reputation than Meredith's feelings on the matter.

They followed her like dogs as she explained that they have a patient with likely diverticulitis. They walk down to the pit only to see..

Shit.

"WATCH IT. HANDS OFF ME. I COULD REPORT YOU TO THE CHEIF  AND YOU'D BE OUT ON YOUR ASS!"

"Patients name is uh... complaining of intermittent cramping, pain and diarrhea. Also suffers from... alzheimers."

"Patients name?"

"Uh..."

"Yang, Patients name?"

"Ellis Grey..."

"Meredith's mother?"

Soon quickly Meredith's sprinted off into the residents lounge and sank to the floor, face in hands. The others followed close behind but she had shut herself out. They all tried to comfort her as best they could but it was hopeless. Bailey had given them assignments to keep the occupied but Derek just couldn't wrap his mind around it. They had known each other for years. Why not tell him? After an hour she finally let Bailey in only to find a mess.

"Do you need to be with her?"

"No, I'm fine." Meredith mumbled under her breath

"Then go home. You're no use here."

"Bailey I said I'm fine."

"I hear you but you're a mess and not useful here. Go home Meredith."

She scoffed and picked up her belongings and left. She passed all her friends with no word. The all just watched as she got into her car and drive. All these thoughts jumbled in her head. 'Crap, now everyone knows. Derek knows. What am I going to say? This is all my fault.' All these thoughts are rambling through her head. Racing to get home. She barges in, no time for eating, she can't eat. She ran up the stairs and plopped into bed. This cannot be happening.
