Chapter 14 - The Price of Power

"So..."

"So, what?" I answered playing dumb.

"You're not going to make me ask are you?" He wiped his hand down his face and when I didn't reply, he outright asked, "Are you and Steve a couple?"

I thought as I continued packing,

"Do you want an honest answer or do you want me to lie to make you feel better?" I said sweetly.

"Truth?" He questioned.

"I honestly don't know."

Thankfully Steve chose that moment to appear at the doorway with a bag.

"Ready?"

"Yes just." I walked past my brother and winked, "hopefully when we get back I'll have an answer for you."

"Oh no you won't I'll get an answer myself, I'm coming with. Rogers OKed it," he smiled cunningly and followed me out into the hall and picking up his bag.

"Argh! Oh by the way I need to warn you, both." They turned to face me in the lift. "If you value your lives do not make any romantics towards Jean Grey. Tony, I'm looking at you."

"You know that's just begging me to do so, right?" He smiled slyly.

"If you do either Logan or Scott'll kill and if you survive which I highly doubt, I'll tell Pepper!"

"You wouldn't?!" He mocked being scared.

"She would," Steve said leaning towards Tony.

"Hey! Oh and Logan and Scott are the ones responsible for my training."

"So we don't want to get on their bad sides judging by your battle prowess," Tony said putting his arm around my shoulders as we walked out to his car. Steve just shook his head as he walked behind us.

When we arrived it was dark. We walked into the lobby and were met by the Professor

"Follow me," he said.

Steve looked at me and said,

"You don't have to do this alone, I'm here for you," with that we followed together.

"Hey there, kid," Logan said materializing beside me, ruffling my hair.

"Hey, this is Steve, who has taken over from you training me. Apparently my hand to hand needs a little work," I said light heartedly gesturing to him.

"Good to meet you sir," Steve said shaking Logan's hand.

"And you kid. Was it hand to hand without powers?"

"Yes," he replied glancing at me like I'd thrown him to the lions, this caused Tony and I to chuckle quietly.

"Well here at the Institute we don't do a lot of training without because we teach students to have pride in their powers but these days we have to teach a little without just in case they aren't able to use powers. For example if they're pitted against SHIELD, if they reveal themselves they run the risk of capture another day." Logan explained rather eloquently, for once.

"I understand, as I have an influence at SHIELD I'll see what can be done." He shook Logan's had again. He nodded with a heavy heart it seemed.

"Thank you, Captain. Has she changed your mind about mutants then?" He asked raising his eyebrow towards me.
