Chapter 34 - Past and Present

Author's Note; Sorry I haven't updated for nearly a month and thank you for your patience. I try to write whenever I have time between lectures. Also due to the facts that I am British, have never been to New York and do not have the Avengers' Tower Address (as much as I want it) I appologise for any mapping/location/descriptive mistakes. "You think he wants backup?" I whispered to Steve as Loki led Bucky away.

"He'll be fine, unless you know something I don't know.'' Steve smirked though the tension between him and my brother was still evidently hanging in the air.

''Tony, you're going to have to get used to me being in danger. After all I have been hired by SHIELD.'' I said, ''I'm going to go for a walk, you sit and breathe brother.'' I gestured taking deep breaths as I spoke.

''Liz, just promise me you'll be careful? After all I only just found you.'' He said before walking away from me.

''Tony, just because you've only just found me, it doesn't mean I'm defenceless in fact I'm probably better trained than you are.'' I added moving to stand behind him. He spun on his heel and hugged me. He kissed my forehead and stroked my hair with a shaky had before he spoke again,

''Liz, I just don't want to lose you.''

''If I may Tony, she is a lot more resilient than she looks--'' Steve spoke up but soon shut up as I imagine Tony gave him a 'stay out of this look'.

''I know you want to protect me because you care but I'm fed up of hiding I want to take a stand and show people what I can do. That means I have to be in danger to show my strength. You both understand that better than most.'' I smiled stepping back to look my brother in the eye.

''Just because I understand it doesn't mean I like it.'' Tony said pouting.

''And just like that he's back folks,'' I commented sarcastically on my brother's attitude returning to its normal self.

''Just be careful out there,'' Tony said shaking his head before ruffling my hair.

''Always am, right I'm going for that walk now.'' I said heading for the lift and added as I stepped inside, ''And Thor?'' I ''Jane's on her way and she brought pop-tarts.'' My uncle's face lit up at both Jane and pop-tarts.

''Mind if I join you?'' Steve asked slipping in just before the doors closed.

''That'd be nice, you can show me the places you knew from before the ice.'' I smiled as Steve reached for my hand.

''There probably isn't much left maybe just Central Park and the Statue of Liberty, but you've been there already.''

''The park'll be fine, Steve. It's the company that matters.'' I reassured him wrapping my arms around his arm as he stood next to me. He kissed the top of my head and I ran the tip of my nose along the underneath of his jaw.

''As nice as that feels not here. Your brother is probably watching the feed from the camera.''He kissed He smiled down at me. I leaned up to kiss him but just then we arrived at our floor.

''Shame we could have given my brother something to watch.'' I said mischievously and he rolled his eyes pulling me out of the lift by my hand.

Upon entering my room I added, ''I just want to get a quick shower,'' I then took a moment to leave a trail of clothing to the bathroom.

''It's alright I'm just here to clean.'' Steve muttered to himself.

''I'll thank you properly later.'' I smiled and winked at him over my shoulder. He blushed then realising I'd heard him, ''Or you could join me and I'll thank you now?'' The suggestion just made him turn to a deeper shade of red.
