"Liz, we have to go!" Bucky said clamping his good arm around my waist in attempt to pull me outside the perimeter.

"Get off me!" I struggled in his arms. I was about to burn my way free when I came to my senses. Shaking my head, I attempted to clear my thoughts.

"He wouldn't want you to die to save him, he'd want you to live on for him. You know that, don't you?" He said in my ear.

"I know but I can't abandon him, not again!" I shouting pulling against him.

"I'm not going to let you go in there to get killed, because when Steve re-joins us he'll kill me. So even not so your sake please for mine, Liz we have to go!"

"30 seconds to self-destruct!" The electronic voice rang in our ears.

"I trust you, but if you're wrong so help me, I'll--"

"Run now, threaten later!" He grabbed my hand in his and pulled me towards the perimeter fence. "Why did Steve have to find someone so stubborn?" He muttered as we ran.

Buildings were already alight was we ran past from sparks caused by the EMP, others looked abandoned. As the final countdown began we weren't going to be out of the blast zone.

"Bucky, how's your grip?" I asked.

"Good why?" He shouted back to me puzzled.

"Hold on!" I stretched my wings and lifted off. We reached near the perimeter fence when Bucky spoke up,

"Um, Liz?"

"Umhum?" As I struggled to lift his weight.

"I'm not going to clear then fence."

I concentrated on my telekinesis and managed to juggle Bucky until he was level with me and hooked my arms under his, just as we passed over the fence.

"Nice save." The back blast hit us before I could reply.

We ended up in a nearby tree.

"Are you still in one piece?" I shouted down to Bucky who was balancing with his stomach on a branch.

"Yes but..."

I unpicked myself from the tree's grasp and using the limb below me and a horizontal bar I swung around it landing on my feet alongside Bucky.

"Need a hand?" I asked light-heartedly levitating him to stand on the branch with my telekinesis which had now returned thankfully to full strength. "Now, what were you trying to say?" He just pointed in the direction of the base but when I followed his gaze, I found what had caused his alarm. There wasn't a single building left standing just a crater full of rubble.

Suddenly my heart was made of lead and threatened to jump right out of my ribcage.

"Liz, I'm so sorry."

"No, what have I done?" I whispered almost falling to my knees and as bad luck would have it my death. I would have had Bucky not wrapped his arm around me to hold me up.

I started to fight him uselessly with forceless punches. Giving up the fools' errand I cried into him, "Tell me everything's going to be alright, tell me he'll be alright..." I breathing hitched in my throat as tears clouded my vision.

"It'll be alright in the end, I promise." He kissed the top of my head. A few minutes later when my eyes were finally dry we swung our way down to the ground.
